The thing about Moff is that he really loves to age his characters through extreme trauma... I don't necessarily buy John Hurt as a superannuated Nine -- but he could be an alt Nine or an alt Eight, or Eleven's nightmare vision, which is also a place Moff goes a lot. See the post-apoc looking Rose outfit...
People will worry themselves into a dither over all this and it will all come to nothing. I'm just so bummed Chris turned Moff down... sadly it would indicate to me that he had no respect for the writing of the script... sigh!
