Thank you very much for writing me a fic – such a treat. Snape as an apothecary and Harry needing help is a favourite trope of mine – so this was a very good fit :)
I loved how Snape was very much, as I view it at least, himself as I read him in the books, in the beginning before Harry clued in to who he was; full of dry humour, sass, attitude, and care and curiosity hidden behind a dismissing manner. Seeing the turn as he choice to be honest and upfront with Harry at the same time having them physical closer worked very well, and the tension and current between them translated to the page. I always imagine them both having things to say to each other if given the chance and it was good seeing that here. I love stories set years after the war, when the memories and wounds of it are some distance away, but never fully gone. The idea of an adult Harry getting to know Snape as a person, as he begins to in the last book when he sees Snape’s memories, is fascinating and intriguing to me. There’s just something there is both their personalities that I think would click. And I see this in this fic – there’s an understanding and respect between that I think works as a first building block and I can well imagine them talking and getting closer and Harry keeps coming back.
In my head-canon Snape is always alive as well, he’s my favourite character from this universe and I don’t want to let him go – and I reckon he would have considered many different endings to his dealings with Voldemort and taken precautions and planned accordingly! The potions master dying from a snake bite don’t sit well with – certainly not Snape! And everything you said about Snape in regards to cruelty, how people saw him and how time and a cleared name would affect him is very much as I see it as well.
We’re in complete agreement on Ginny and Harry – in general I find it hard to believe the epilogue overall as I just don’t believe after everything each of them have been through they would end up there. To me it’s too sweet an ending, but perhaps it would be different if I knew what happened during all the years between the end of the war and the epilogue.
Thank you again; the gesture and the fic are very much both appreciated :)
