I love very near to NASA Goddard, so they intentionally flew the shuttle right over us. It was so awesome. I heard the roar of the 747 and dashed outside with my camera trying to figure out where it was and then I could see -- it looked much more awesome with the naked eye than with my camera, which was not zoomed properly in my haste!! It had a little jet flying beside it as well. It was lovely against the blue sky.
SO VERY COOL. I am very much in favor of manned space flight so I can't wait to see what comes next. :D
I'm using my Uhura icon because Nichelle Nichols has worked very hard as a goodwill ambassador for NASA and the Shuttle program. :D
!!!!!! Jeez, I waved at the little dot of light that was the ISS when it was particularly visible a while back, I'd have totally lost it if the shuttle'd passed over me :D
Yes, I was incredibly excited by seeing the shuttle. It looked so awesome, perched on top of its 747. I could see it much more clearly than the photo indicates.
I was like running out of my house, up the hill and capering like a crazy person. So yes, it was very exciting!
I always wave at the Space Station without even knowing where it is!! :D
Hahaha, I wish I could take credit for it. I can't remember where I found that one, but when I did I laughed for like ten minutes.
Yeah, I would have done the same thing. And my mother waves at airplanes, so the shuttle...lol...one time she actually yelled "HIIIIIIII!" when the Snowbirds did a flyover. This was from her position in the middle of the street. XD
I was on my morning walk when I bumped into a friend who told me when it was flying over -- they had kept the flight path a secret until the last minute. So I was sitting at my dining table working when I heard the 747 and I grabbed my camera and went dashing out the door and up the court like a mad woman! It was extremely cool to see it flying along. Other friends went down to the National Mall to see it fly over. :D
Sean Rameswarum was just assuring us on ArtBeat that it would now be in Dulles "forever." :P But it sure was cool to see it in the air. :D
*sigh* In Houston, we're all still pretty pissed off about ALL the shuttles going to other cities (it ain't right) and now they've taken our Trainer to give to Seattle. Asswipes. *grumps*

I used to work on a flight line, at Edward's AFB, that was very close to where they would load the Shuttle on their special 747. You gotta love it!

My babe and I drove out to the airport today and watched planes come in. Cheap thrills!! ;D
