Weeellll, this is his own doing, let's not forget. Sam, in this episode, seems to be tentatively extending a smidge of an olive branch, but Dean repeatedly shoves it away. While I do enjoy angsty Dean and his growing decent into eeeeeevil, I don't feel he is hopeless and helpless to stop it (except that if he did, we wouldn't have the plot the Show wants! ;)) Emotions have gravity too, and right now, Dean needs to feel bad -- for reasons he holds within himself, as well as those beyond him. With the help of the Mark, he's embracing them. Self-fulfilling prophecy, much as Sam believed during Season 4.
