Remember how Dean had to interview this woman who ran an Antiquities Institute in Kansas City, and they totally flirted? so I wrote some smutty smut smut about the two of them back in s9 when Dean still had the mark. Her name is Dr. McElroy,  from 9.16 Blade Runners.

Now, since Dean came home with a hickey, rode hard and put away wet, I have written a chapter two.  It is all on Ao3.  I hope you might enjoy in honor of Valentine's Day, and international fanworks day on Ao3!  :D

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hunenka for the encouragement!  hope you like it!

Here is my story.  The new part is chapter two.  :D

Prompt me!

Jul. 10th, 2014 01:20 pm
fannishliss: old motel sign says motel beer eat (Default)
hi flist, I am looking for prompts!   Your prompts will give me a happy summer. :D

Please name your preferred rating and I'll do my best. Gen or Explicit I am fine with it.  Your prompt can be a word or a scenario, a kink, a hurt/comfort, whatever flips your flipper, if something comes up that is off the table I'll let you know privately, otherwise, I am game and ready to write!  I love writing to prompt and it is a point of pride with me that I do eventually fill them all one way or another.

prompt me for Supernatural, especially any women characters; demon!Dean, powers!Sam, Weakening!Cas, Crowley, Meg, etc....  I can write to any season as well though I may need some guidance as nine years of canon is a lot to keep straight at this point!

The Doctor, any Doctor (tho I'm not great with Eleven), and especially these companions: Rose, Ace, Jack, Romana, Leela, Sarah Jane, Jamie, Jo, Susan, Charlie, Fitz.  My Doctors are, in today's order of preference, Nine, Eight, Ten, Four, Six, Five, Seven, Eleven, Three, Two, One, the Hurt Doctor, Twelve (who is all in my head right now).

prompt me for Bucky.  I pair him with Steve, but also I love the aspect of past James/Natalia.  I ship Natasha/Clint pretty hard and I do NOT ship Steve/Tony. (It's Tony/Pepper for me 100%, or possibly Tony is an adorbs playboy and Pepper is VERY understanding, and I also buy Tony/Pepper plus Bruce.  Because Bruce is so sweet.)  I do not ship Steve/Natasha (friends only).  I do not ship Sam/Steve, but I can see why people do, and I like the idea of Sam being both open and blunt with Steve about Steve's very tangled ratnest of emotional problems.

Other fandoms I have loved include XFiles (where I shipped Mulder/Krycek, Mulder/Scully, Scully/Skinner, and Skinner/Mulder/Scully); Firefly (Where I ship Jayne/River, or basically Jayne/anyone, because he is a big sexy amoral opportunist);  Sentinel -- because I am ready to write some Jim/Blair, if anyone is asking;  Harry/Snape;  maybe a bit of John/Sherlock (tho I'm out of that headspace right at the moment); Sherlock/Joan (I have to admit I am so pissed she is sleeping with Mycroft.  What the actual fuck?!?!); also Obi/Qui; Dale Cooper/Audrey Horne; figures from mythology; there is probably something glaring I'm not remembering right now.  :)

Go to town!  :D

If I'm figuring correctly, Supernatural will be tied with Smallville for Longest Running SF show (besides Doctor Who) at the end of next year!!!
s1 & s2 = 22 each
s3 = 16
s4, 5, 6,  = 22 each
s7, 8, 9 = 23 each
s10 I suppose will be 23.
= Total: 218.
Currently, the "North American" record for longest running SF show is Smallville, with 218 episodes.
Next, is Star Gate SG-1 with 214 episodes over ten years.  In third place is XFiles with nine seasons.  I am surprised to see that Star Trek the Next Generation only ran for seven years, and Highlander for six. And of course Buffy for seven.

If you have been a fan of long-running shows, what do you think of how Supernatural compares, in terms of how it has maintained Sam and Dean as steady leads, while rotating other important characters like Castiel, Bobby, Crowley, and beloved guests like JDM, Ruby, Meg, the Harvelles, Garth, the Ghostfacers, Jody, Charlie  (once you start listing awesome SPN characters, it gets hard to stop)?

In Star Gate and in XFiles there was turnover amongst the leads -- Daniel ascended and was gone for a while right? and in XFiles, Scully and Mulder took a back seat in the last two seasons.  What about on Highlander?   Next Gen had pretty steady leads, but was a huge ensemble show (as were Voyager and DS9).  Buffy remained fairly steady over seven years with Buffy, Willow and Xander always together as a team, right?  And of course, over the 50 year history of Doctor Who, there have been at least twelve Doctors and dozens of companions.

Supernatural has held my attention like no other show, all because the Show focuses on the troubled relationship between the two brothers, and the choices they make as they try to Save People while Hunting Things.    Such a simple premise, but so astonishingly fruitful!

I think another thing SPN did right was the way it incorporates the playfulness between brothers into every episode.  I laugh and cry by turns watching Supernatural.  I love them SO MUCH.  My son, who is 13, has been watching Show since 2007-- half his life.  Star Trek has my huge respect (the Federation flag is MY flag), and I love Doctor Who, but Supernatural just rivets me to my seat, year after year.  Not even XFiles or Buffy ever owned me like this.

Part of it, as I mentioned above, is the way SPN succeeds in creating amazing guest characters, like the Nun from the recent ep.  Star Trek was originally pitched as Wagon Train to the Stars... I think SPN is similar in that we are introduced to side characters and really care about them by the time they leave, even over the course of one episode.  SPN is a detail-rich show, where every actor (according to lore at cons) is made to feel like they really matter, and they DO.

What do you guys think about Show culture and why it has succeeded so well?  I also just have to say -- Serge Ladouceur.  Cinematography on this show is just stunning.  And who heads up set dressing, because they freaking RULE.

Um, I'm up for S11.  Just sayin!

1. Your main fandom of the year?
I was more balanced between Doctor Who and Supernatural this year.  Also, I did consume a whole lot of Sherlock, both BBC Sherlock and Elementary, but I have yet to write anything more than that one SuperWhoLock about CumberLock and John.  :)  JLM just continues to impress.  :)

2. Your favourite film watched this year?
I enjoy the big blockbusters but it's usually smaller films that I love.  Top of my list for this year would Song for Marion, aka Unfinished Song, with With Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, Christopher Eccleston, Vanessa Redgrave.    I watched this movie for Chris, and he did not disappoint, but Terence Stamp won my heart with this amazing performance.  Just a stellar, beautiful movie.
Also great were:
Kinky Boots, the original movie with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola.    We saw this at the AFI Silver and it was so good.  I can't help but suspect it is probably better than the Broadway show? Nothing against Cyndi Lauper, but the songs used in the movie are all time classics like "What Lola Wants" and "These Boots are made for Walking" and "In these Shoes"  which really can't be beat. And Chiwetel Ejiofor is just such a fantastic actor.
Beginners, with Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer.  I think I actually saw this last year, but I love Ewan and he always does such good movies.
Another great movie was Wajda, a film about a young girl in Saudi Arabia who wants to win a bicycle, directed by first female Saudi film director, Haifaa Al Mansour. A very beautiful and complex movie, a look inside a society that is literally hidden from view.
Oh yes, and Joss Whedon's real triumph this year, Much Ado about Nothing, with the amazing Amy Acker as Beatrice, Alexis Denisoff as Benedick, and Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) as Don Leonato.  Also Simon Tam  (Sean Maher) as Don John (nicely played) and Capn Mal as Dogberry.   Is it funny that I now think of Amy Acker primarily as a Supernatural alumna (she played Andrea Barr in SPN1.3, Dead in the Water) rather than as Fred/Illyria on Angel?

3. Your favourite book read this year?
Allie Brosh's book Hyperbole and a Half will probably end up being one of my favorite books EVER.  So happy she got it out there in book form.  If you are at all a fan of her blog, the book is even better.
I'm part of  a non-fiction by women book club.   We read a lot of fantastic books.  Three of my favorites this year were:
Wild:  From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, by Cheryl Strayed.
The Red Leather Diary, by Lily Koppel, about a young woman living in New York City in the 1930s.
and Life List, a Woman's Quest for the World's Most Amazing Birds, by Olivia Gentile (a biography of Phoebe Snetsinger, who saw more than 8500 of the world's 10,000 bird species in her lifetime).

4. Your favourite TV show of the year?  Supernatural.  Fandom contribute so much to Sherlock and Who, but Supernatural gives and gives.  What a great show. I'm so proud to be a part of the whole Supernatural epoch in my little fannish way.

5. Your favourite online fandom community of the year?
all.  Fandom is fantastic. Sherlock fandom has so many great writers.  AO3 is bursting with material.   And the different iterations -- movie, ACD, BBC and Elementary, plus Grenada, all bring so much life to the Sherlock fandom.    With SPN, the cast and crew of the show seem almost to work hand in hand with fandom to deliver a superior product.  Despite persistent predictions that the show will get tired or old, for me it never does.  s9 is still rocking it!  And of course with Who, this year was the 50th Anniversary, so there was miching mallecho.  My OTP, Nine/Rose, didn't see a lot of action this year, but at least season 7.5 had some quality to it.

6. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I don't think I broke any new ground this year....

7. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Agents of Shield.  Work harder Joss!

 8. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Jonny Lee Miller. His mannered and eccentric portrayal of Sherlock nonetheless feels very real to me.

9. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Lucy Liu.  I have loved getting to know her as Watson.  She has really earned my respect over the course of a season and a half.

10. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Return to Supernatural of Sheriff Jodie Miller.  Squeeee!

11. The most missed of your old fandoms?
Wouldn't you know it? I still crave Jim and Blair.  sigh!  (That's The Sentinel for any whippersnappers out there!)

12. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
That's not me.  I don't crave fantoms in advance....

13. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
BBC Sherlock!  new ep ready to view, oh yeah!!!

Author's Note: ostensibly this ficlet should be about young Hunter Tracy Bell, but there was not much to work with.  I get the impression that the demons who killed her family let her go in a Book of Job style "I alone am escaped to tell thee" because to demons, the possibility of undercutting Winchesters later is always good.   But I decided to go with Dean's pov, instead of Tracy's, because I think there's more meat there.  Maybe she will come back again sometime later and be more interesting.

fannishliss: old motel sign says motel beer eat (Default)
Wow, I just finished the mammoth backup to AO3.  That took a while getting all those drafts tagged and posted.

So yay, congratulate me!  I have over 200 fics!

It has been pretty amazing reading back over my fic -- I started posting stories on LJ for Supernatural in 2008.  So, 200 stories in five years.

Many of those stories still resonate with me emotionally -- things I wanted so bad especially for Dean because I am a Dean girl at heart.  So many sadnesses for that character.  So many sweet AUs I dreamed up for him that have all fallen away.

I figured out how to sort some of my stories into a series: my post 5.22 AU Promise Verse is now all gathered up!
http://archiveofourown.org/series/59344  ; --- over 37,000 words.
So yes, I do in fact ship Dean/Lisa.  Just reading over this made me cry, I miss her so much and what she could have been for Dean. The Promise verse will always be my AU happy place!!

I think I have all my Women of Supernatural stories tagged.  It feels great to be working on that project again, now with season Nine!!

First of all HOW AWESOME IS IT THAT I JUST TYPED SPN 9.1. HOLY CRAP THE LITTLE SHOW THAT CAN!!!!  \o/

And also, YAY ALL THE LJ ACTIVITY!!!  :D :D :D  Whew, I am relieved about the Red Scare that isn't. Big sigh of relief.

Second of all, my s8 DVDs came and I just barely had time to watch a few before s9.  I concentrated on the Men of Letters and Trials eps.  My top ep of the year for s8 was, of course, Ben Edlund's excellent Nazi Necromancer ep, Everyone Hates Hitler.  I am SO glad Edlund got to write Evil Undead Nazi Necromancers and the Golem before leaving.  I also loved Henry Winchester in As Time Goes By.  The more I watch him, the more I love his characterization.   I just adore the part where he reads John's journal and understands that his Legacy didn't die in John or in the Boys.  Having just watched Sam rescue Bobby from Hell, there sure are a lot of mixed messages regarding whether or not Sam is meant to keep his promise to rescue people from the afterlife, or not keep it.
