How the Raven Stole the Sun

Does the raven remember
when it spoke to the wolves,
calling out aerial reconnaissance,
cackling the pack to the prey?

I learned from the very awesome [livejournal.com profile] logospilgrim that today is Severus Snape's birthday!  Most of you probably don't know how much I love Snape since I was a big loserly lurker in the heyday of my involvement with the Potterverse.  I am Ravenclaw to the core, but I love Snape so much.  He is so unhuggable, and I want to hug him SO MUCH.  Anyway, Happy 53rd Birthday, Severus!  Enjoy being alive and well and running an apothecary in Spain.

Also, I committed some very fun crack this morning that made me smile a lot. It is a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan slashy comment fic over at [livejournal.com profile] jessicaqueen's journal.  I hope you enjoy her very fine ficlet and that our fun interchange will make you smile.  None of it is rated over teen and it is not at all explicit.

Here is my poem about taking a walk around the lake in January.   I hope you enjoy it!

[this is an original poem, for my friend [livejournal.com profile] roguebitch, who wanted something about women, sex, and aging]

Dare I Be the Peach?

I'm no peach,
unblemished, firm and fair,
fresh flesh prepared to bear an heir--

but yes, I am a peach,
ripe and luscious,
first fruit, juiciest, most delicious.

I'm no green thing, left to ripen on a shelf --
my hour of delectation I determine for myself.

Yes, I am sunlight distilled,
tender rain and tended field,

the flower and the bee,
the well-trimmed tree,
the journey to the stall,
bruises and all.

But no, I don't sit waiting,
flaunting, baiting,
calling all comers
with the headiest of odors.

A flash of gold, a blush of rose:
my qualities are subtler, headier than those --
it requires a deeper discernment to discover
with what pleasures I requite the better sort of lover.

With lips and tongue and teeth I'll suckle in
as trails of oozy sweetness track my skin.

Fingers delving deep, the sweet flesh drips--
a quiver in the belly, a shake of the hips,

a sigh, an eyelid flutter at such delight.
One last kiss to sticky fingers,
licked clean, tucked out of sight.

Now, as for the pit,
that stony heart, the core
of secret germinations, it holds in store
within, the ideal: the idea

of the tree

still branching out

into sublimity---

Here is a little thing I like to do sometimes.  [livejournal.com profile] emraldeyedauter prompted Ten/Rose: Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken"   -- hope you like it!

The Rose Not Taken
(with apologies to Robert Frost)

Two lives diverged on a windy shore,
and sorry I could not live them both
and be one man still, long I stood
and gazed at the two as long as I could,
 with all their hopes stretched out before;

I thought the other me just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because he was human, less worse for wear,
and all my love was burning there—
one fire, one blood, one heart, the same—

Our hearts in her hands equally lay
when she pulled him into her arms to kiss.
Oh, how I marked every jot of that day!
—that girl who forever and ever I'd miss--
I doubted I'd ever be back that way.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
 somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two lives diverged on that shore, and he,
he took her hand, and said those words,
and that made all the difference.

Quotidian

We might dream of heroism —
something more heroic than
stitching together a seam that was torn,
slathering a piece of raisin bread with butter,
welcoming home a mate after a long day's work,
wiping the tears from a child's face,
surprising someone with their favorite pie.

Dreaming, I've carried my child on my back from the ruins of an apocalyptic city.
But I have carried my child on my back.

Dreaming, I've torn a man's head from his shoulders when he tried to take my water.
But I have answered back when I disagreed.

Dreaming, I've stabbed a monster a hundred times until it stopped moving.
But I have used that same knife to skin a deer, and all winter we ate.

Ulysses fought his way home to Penelope's hearth.

The one I love
never tortured,
is not an assassin,
never ended the world.
His nightmares are when our boy
runs out into the street without looking.

What hero would make a home in loving arms?
A real one, a lucky one, every day.

We're expecting a modest amount of snow today, but the air is full of that impending feeling.  It made me look up Wallace Stevens.  Then, ha, I had to go back and find my parody, which is still one of my favorite things.

Thirteen Ways of Looking at Sam and Dean

My boy read the Wallace Stevens, and I had to explain the line "bawds of euphony," which, HARD.  But he laughed and smiled all the way through my parody, which, my work here is done.  :)

237 nights from Fiji to San Francisco, or
the metaphysical journey from 3 am to 6 am:

Traversing the glaze from dark purple to hot pink,
the meandering path between midnight and morning --

the luminous black that glitters with the glitter
of platinum, chrome, and every starry silver --

night's fullness bursts in pink frost, pale lavender,
ripening to the fuchsia bling bling of flame opal --

again, the gentle glitter of glitz pink, petite pink,
and the lavender green of the awakening soul mate

and the morning is wrapped in last night's sheet

chocolate
hot

and ready for the day to come --

1.  I have a fic challenge due on March 7.  It is Dean/Cas, but PG-13.  4000 words.  Any takers for Beta?  Beta is required by the fic challenge.  :)

2.  Silliness. Boy and I like to write silly little songs and rhymes.  Here is my latest WINNER:

o musical poopster,
cease your yodeling.
no one wants to hear
about your commodeling.

Worthy of Vogons?  y/n

:)

(Boy challenged me to rhyme something to his favorite word, yodeling, and this immediately occurred.)
(Because my mind is evil that way.)

With season two, Supernatural takes a marked turn-- in s1, most women did not recur for more than one episode -- the exception is the demon, Meg. With s2, however, we meet three women who have big recurring roles -- Jo, Ellen, and the Crossroads Demon -- and also Tessa, who we meet again.  I've already written a couple of stories with Tessa in them (The Long Hall, about Dean, and The Night Weighs Heavy, about Sam), and about the Impala appearing as part of a Reaper (the Layla story), so I need more time on Tessa, and I think the Harvelle women and the CRD need pretty strong stories, since so many people have worked on them.  So, I'm breaking chronological order to present these two POEMS for two women of s2.  Thanks for reading!

TITLE: "angels fall like rain"

PAIRING, RATING:  This piece is Gen, but it is about Dean and Castiel.

WARNINGS:  not so much, except it is written as a prose poem and does not divide evenly into 100 word chunks  :)  angst, light literary allusion, heavy use of consonants.

SPOILERS:  for situation through 4.20

NOTES: This fic is for [livejournal.com profile] roguebitch , who bit when I offered the Demand a Drabble meme.  However, this Fic is Not a Drabble.  It is an experimental prose/poem form. The title is from "Ghost in You" by Psychedelic Furs, a beautiful, serene, and celestial song, very different from this angsty fic. Thanks Cassie! hope you like it!!

COMMENTS:  strongly desired -- also, Demand a Drabble!

DISCLAIMER:  do not own; no money made; this is a transformative work.

----A poem, containing my obligatory reference to birds.

###

Tiny, white, five-petaled flowers
burst from branches twisted and black
in spring’s newly strengthened sun.

--like fetal hands,
or primitive echinoderms,
or the star we inscribe to make magic—

little flowers, unnamed, almost unnoticed,
twinkling like the fingers of  a nursery song,
toward a future hinted at, hoped for,

and crows, black as branches, cross
the robin’s egg blue above, softly cackling,
guiding their mates toward new nests.

###

I hope it brings a little lyricism to your spring.

This poem came to me while I was watching luminosity's recent awesome pair of Sam and Dean vids, set to the Unkle song, Broken.  I remember this lore from a Percy Shelley poem, but I don't remember which one. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] bowtrunckle , who recc'd Luminosity's vids -- among her many sterling qualities, she has great taste!

This poem is pretty grim, inspired by Luminosity's beautiful but grim vision of the boys' emotional state right now in mid s4.

SCORPIONS IN A RING OF FIRE

Sam clickety clicked away the day while Dean drank beer after beer, bloody images reflecting on the surface of his eyes.  )

Comments and/or concrit would be super welcome!

dec 18: my semi-bang, Dancers at the Lake, 12000 words!
I am pretty happy with this, if only people would read it!
It is highly theological in nature, and features Dean and Ruby.
It also has a Great Soundtrack!  Again, feel free to request the cd.
Originally conceived as a rewrite of the fairy tale, "The Twelve Dancing Princesses," which is one of my favorites.

SO THAT IS MY 2008 IN REVIEW.  A dozen cool metas on a variety of topics, plus NINE stories ranging from Drabble #1 to my 12000 words.  I'm pretty happy with this!
