Ooh! You picked a good one. That is Ben Edlund's drawing of Man-Eating Cow, the cover of the first issue. It was a spinoff of his AWESOME comic book, the Tick, of which I was an avid reader.

We read Cow, and then we found out she came from the USDA station near where we used to live! So we went on a reconnaissance mission and took photographs of the usda and photos of the cows there and I wrote a two page spread about the USDA and the suspicious PRESENCE OF COWS, that was pure crack, and they published the full two-page spread in one of the letter columns!!

Plus, I just LOVE the idea of Man-Eating Cow. You can't see in this icon, but she is standing on a pile of leather shoes, belts and wallets. Because she is not a Cannibal!!! :P

I use it as kind of my "I am woman hear me roar" icon, and also when I want to tout my twenty-year obsession with Edlund's brain!!

I can feel at peace in a lot of places -- in bed, at table, on a walk around my neighborhood, out driving.... I'm fairly peaceful! In general, when I use that icon, Young Severus is scheming something. Poor guy, he knew so little peace. Weep.

I think you are also referring to my Killdozer icon. When I was a wee bairn, before I could even read, I loved comic books and scary stories, and that was my favorite comic book. It was published in 1974 and is a comic adaptation of a made for tv movie based on Ted Sturgeon's novella "It" or "Killdozer" which he wrote in the early 1940s. In the original story, some US gi's building an airstrip on a pacific island awaken a chthonic energy being that possesses a bulldozer and tries to kill them. They defeat it, just like Dean, with their American can-do attitude and their high school educations. The cover, which was my favorite part, reads "That bulldozer! It's alive! and it's trying to destroy us!" and the bulldozer is saying "YOU DARED DEFY ME AND SO YOU MUST DIE!!!" I use it when I am feeling my oats in an argument, like being kind of loud and obnoxious with my viewpoint -- or when butting into a thread.

Who do I dare defy? Everyone, if necessary. But especially Dipshits. I do not suffer fools gladly.
Who dares defy me? My offspring!

I wonder if other folks' icons have so many paragraphs of back story?
