I enjoyed last night's episode for two reasons:
first, Sera totally reads our posts or I will eat my hat. she practically quoted us. For the record, I don't think Sam has committed necrophilia -- angry comfort sex with a demon yes, necrophilia no. Whoever Kristi was, she is passed on and I hope she wishes the new occupant well. I mean i hope she wasn't created as a vengeful spirit due to a violent death or unfinished business -- Ruby said the spirit was gone, so I hope that means good things for Kristi.
Ruby is totally in love with Sam. Before i just thought she wanted him to be her saviour -- which i still think, but it's more than that. I loved the recent story where Ruby loved Sam for how beautiful she was when he saw her....
but I don't think Sammy loves her back. Yet.
Castiel is also in love with Dean, yes, but I'm following not_refined on that... she's telling an awesome story of Angelic love...
but Dean won't love Castiel back either if he keeps trying to strategically take out civilians!
I had another reason. what was it?
well anyway i had to get up this morning and put on my Asia album and play Heat of the Moment so deannsammy could dance. Sammy is still a little pigeontoed, but he's no worse a dancer than he ever was. Dean doll is bummed because he can't do cheerleader pointing as well as Jensen, but he tried. They had a really nice brotherly dance and hugged it all out. It was totally therapeutic. Doll Dancing Heals!
Sam is only in a cage because every time I try to create new userpic lj fails. or i fail. i don'k know which. I mean I have these awesome pics of John in heaven, and sammyndean with my unicorn, Gallant Rainbow Dancer, and with their pet ghost Howler, and in the Boxter outside the Haunted Candy Shop... all to no avail. sigh
if anybody is annoyed because of my lack of capitals it's only because of my laptop. the shift keys on these tiny mac keyboards are super finicky. You have to hold down the shift key for subjective EONS if you really want a capital. i don't care that much. i hope it doesn't bother anyone. I know, because I am a proofreader....
I spoiled myself with the preview for next week. i won't say anymore i swear, just that I was like should i watch the preview and i was all, omg, should i turn it off?!?! but i watched it. I've decided not to watch them anymore. Possibilities are like screaming through my head now. DO NOT WANT.
Oh, maybe the second thing was Sam's sexuality? But wait, wasn't that more of the first thing?? :)
We can never talk enough about Sam's sexuality, right?
Sooooo, does it really mean he's bi if the CRD was a guy this time? I wish it had looked more like Dean in facial resemblance or dress or bearing, cause we know who Sammy REALLY WANTS. Sam and Dean are FOR EACH OTHER. I guess we pretty much know that Dean sleeps with women, because, Jamie. And I guess that Sam does too, since we pretty much SAW THAT ON CAMERA. Even my husband was like, Wow, he is massive! yummy Jared. He is Large. and kind of ravenous.
I almost remembered the second thing!

oh, i am on offer if any wants a laywoman's exegesis of the Revelation to John. i reread it the other day and have a temporary handle on it, so just ask. Religiously, i am an ex-Presbyterian, ultra liberal Episcopalian, with neo-pagan tendencies. and my bff is currently in the process of converting to Judaism which is the best freaking thing in the history of ever!!!!!
OK maybe this was the second thing:
some folks are like how OOC Sam was last night. But why? yes in Mystery Spot he kept it together -- but that was different, because he knew he was in the grip of the Trickster. Or he at least held on to that belief. With Dean's death by hellhound in May, it was really different. He had to bury Dean's body (he didn't nail the lid shut, omfg) and go after whatever he could think of, like the CRD and none of it worked. he had literally NO HOPE. it was killing him. I don't at all think it was OOC. And giving in when Ruby basically demanded sex? he was pretty drunk and hopeless for will power at that point....
I guess I will let stronger critics than myself argue about whether the Sam and Ruby sex was good or bad storytelling... I'm a poor judge of things like that.
I loved the girl listening in on angel radio. that was awesome. and she had MIND POWERS. also awesome!! the final scene was so awesome. I really loved Dean's pseudo apology to Ruby. He is so graceless sometimes. But he finally got that she took care of his brother when he couldn't. And he owes her for that. sex or no sex. so no more stupid comments Dean, or you will not be held guiltless!
so next we need some fessing up on Dean's part. MR CROWLEY I PRESUME!!!!!!

Sam isn't supposed to be sweet, caring, and sensitive anymore. His brother DIED, and something inside him just...broke. He became a drunk, violent, irrational. He felt he had nothing else to lose, no reason to really CARE- sure, he tried to refuse Ruby at first. But to say he was extremely vulnerable at this stage is a major understatement. Maybe he just wanted to connect with someone (pardon the pun), to feel something again after not being able to in so long.
So yes, I get why some of you are disgusted. I believe that scene had a double intent- it was squicky for some, hot as hell for others. Personally, I'm more than comfortable feeling the latter.
P.S. I knew it wasn't going to happen (obviously) but I was still secretly hoping that the demon agreed to deal- I mean yay, boy kissing!
How pathetic, right? I mean seriously, I even squeed a little, lol!

I feel sympathetic for people who were squicked -- but I wasn't! A lot of folks on my flist were not so happy... but some were!
I think Ruby was being exceptionally conscientious in choosing her body and it was hardly dead at all, except for the spirit being gone... It was so cool that Sam was like, get out of that helpless girl's body... Remember how Meg's ghost taunted Dean about this issue? apparently she did not know all. I do think she wants to help Sam, and except for her desire to get Sam to destroy Lilith, she seems fairly altruistic. I am beginning to trust her like Sam kind of does -- I hope she will not turn on us.

I also found it interesting that Sam's Crossroad Demon this time was a man. *significant look* I wonder if that was just a random choice or if someone in Showland was tired of Sam killing women in black dresses. Maybe Gamble was a little sensitive to that as she wrote the script?

Date: 2008-11-14 06:07 pm (UTC)I really think there's some evidence that Show is trying to work with the gender problem this season. I LIKE seductive demons in Black Dresses, but scruffy boy CRD makes a nice change.
I like some of the casting choices this season too. For example, Jamie, played by actress Melinda Sward, is only a year younger than Jensen (born 1979) so that is cool, because I'm not such a fan of every actress always being 19. Also, the woman who played the mom in Great Pumpkin (the wife of the guy who was killed by razor blade) was not rail thin, so that was nice... and then Uriel is being played by an African American, so that is also good diversity, because there shouldn't be any reason one way or another why an Angel would inhabit a body of a certain race... these things all contribute to better diversity on the show, which was one thing that a lot of people have wanted to see.
Another favorite moment was when Ruby's eyes went black in fear when she saw the Angels. AWESOME!!
I need an icon, with a possum on it, that is the OSSUM POSSUM. How. I am too weak.

I liked this, too. Not only do we know that there's more than 1 CRD, but having red eyes and being a deal maker isn't gender specific.

Jamie was great. I was also happy that she was more age appropriate for Dean's character. I get tired of the boys always lingering around women who are in their late teens-mid-20s. Dean will be turning 30 in a couple of months and even though I know men tend to horndog over younger women, seeing Dean constantly lust after women 10 years younger than him reeks of immaturity and would grow tiresome for me. I really liked the fact Jamie KNEW about Dean's "real life" and their relationship had an authenticity that seems lacking in most of Dean's conquests. Maybe someday Dean'll return to Pennsylvania (just like Sam'll head back up to upstate NY). Yeah, right. ;)

OMG! YES! I think I cheered. :D This episode did wonders for my outlook on Ruby. She's a pretty manipulative chica. Whoo! :)
