2011 Fic Review
Jan. 3rd, 2012 12:18 pmDear friends, Happy 2012! Thanks for traveling along with me through the year, for sharing your triumphs and sorrows. May 2012 bring you all greater blessings!
I finally completed my fic review for 2011. It's really quite difficult to answer these questions, so the answer are pretty arbitrary. I did my best. I hope you'll try at least one story you didn't catch before. :D
Did you write more or less than you thought you would this year? More! Entering Dr. Who fandom was incredible for my muse: 44 stories, 103,544 words! and in SPN for the year, an additional 32,100 words = 23 stories, poems, two metas, and two original songs! Grand total = 162646 words for the year, in 73 fanworks. More than double my average output. o_O
Where did you publish/archive your stories? I have a great deal of trouble categorizing my fics so that comms will accept them, expecially in SPN. I had the best luck with Time and Chips because my Doctor/Rose stories were actually Doctor/Rose stories yay.
What did you write that you didn't predict in Jan. 2011? I had no idea when I began 2011 that I would start writing Doctor Who, returning to a fandom I'd been part of as a teenager in the 80s!
What's your favorite story this year? I love all my babies… it's so hard to choose. For the sake of argument, I'll say Doggerel Style -- where I took a lot of risks and played around and told a story I really wanted to tell so that it transcended its cracky premise to become something more. If you have never seen Strumpet (by Danny Boyle, feat. Chris absolutely untamed and brilliant), don't worry. It's a chameleon arch story where the Doctor is much earthier version of himself.
Your most popular story? No Running From Her - where I tried to explore the dark side of the Doctor that he keeps so tightly leashed. One of my first Doctor stories, so therefore fresh and probing.
Story most under appreciated by the universe? Eye of the Storm. I did get several lovely comments, so I shouldn't be greedy, but it is quite long, so I was hoping for more…. :P It is Nine/Jack/Rose, so that throws the Doctor/Rose readers I think.
Story that could have been better? I made A Stitch in Time as a present for Emraldeyedauter that was 11000 words …. it might have used a little more editing in the front end, but I still like it very well.
Sexiest story? Naked is pretty sexy I think, however I devoted a lot of effort to sexy stories this year, so there is more than one. :)
Most fun story? Aliens vs Demons a crossover where Dean and Sam meet Nine and Rose.
Story with the sweetest moment? I think Doggerel Style is very sweet even though it is also very pornish.
The story that made you cry? a drabble called Tears of Joy that outlines a supremely tragic moment in the life of Dean Winchester. I don't think it will make any sense unless you have seen supernatural through s6.
Hardest story to write? technically the hardest story to write is the one I haven't written, the sequel to the Doctor Waiting, Nine's Commonplace Book, which is his notes to Rose over 250 years of waiting to reunite with her. So much work!!! I also had a strangely hard time writing Christmas at Bobby's -- I guess because I hardly ever focus on Weechesters, so I have to spend a lot to time generating their characterization.
Easiest story to write? Eye of the Storm. Though long, it just poured out, and has several scenes between Rose and Jack that I really adore.
Most overdue story? -- I'm pretty good with deadlines. However I did start a drabble for "baking" that is still a doc on my desktop. :P
Did you take any writing risks this year? yes, specifically in mature themes
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year? I wish I could write a great fannish song that everyone puts on their iPod. :D
