In the antiquated idea of Leap Day, it was the one day of the year when women might chase after men to propose marriage. Yay, times have changed!

Still, it might be fun to pretend you could chase after your idol -- be it real person, fictional character -- or even someone you know. What would you say with the freedom Leap Day has given you?

Feel free to answer in comments or pass this along as a meme. :D

Well I can't say I waited until a leap year but in my lifetime I asked three guys out. The first was shocked and never spoke to me again. Okay so I was about 14 so no big deal. The second time there was mutual feeling between both parties and we did go out a couple of times but decided in the end to remain good friends, which we still are 20 or more years on.

The third time guy I asked out is now my husband who till this day swears I was brave to ask because he wanted to ask me but having been hurt rather badly in the past couldn't do it.

We were both part of mutual friends wedding party and got on very well. A week later I rang him to say thank you for being a wonderful partner and for being such a gentleman. Then about 4 weeks later I saw him again at said friends house. We got on well again. Back then I did not have a car so he offered to drive me home. We laughed and chatted and when I finally got to my house I bit the bullet and in a voice full of stammering asked if he'd like to go out sometime. I was very relieved to get a yes and so it started and now we've been together for 15 years and married for nearly 12 of them.

So if you like someone follow your heart and ask them out. There is a chance they can say no but also a good chance that they might say yes and that can lead you anywhere.

That's a great story! I also made the first move on my husband. :D

My husband and I met at a summer camp. He was 16 (going on 17!) and about to be a senior in high school; I was 19 and about to be a sophomore in college. I immediately noticed how awesome he was but there wasn't any way I could ask him out because I was about to go back to college and anyway he had a girlfriend already! So I nervously bit the bullet at the last minute when everyone was about to leave, and asked if he would like to be pen pals!!!!

He said he would.

The day I got his first letter at college I skipped all the way back to my dorm. We met on July 4, 1987 (fireworks!) and I was also the one who proposed, repeatedly, until we got married May 1, 1993. So this year will be our 19th anniversary and we're still as blissful and dumbfounded as we were in the beginning. It's one of those crazy fairytale things!

And I totally still have all those letters. :D :D :D

The icon is my husband in a stage role from a play by Ionesco. :P

You know maybe I'm to old fashioned, but I prefer a guy that comes after me. I'll show interest, but I want him to be the aggressor. So I guess, I'd just want to meet my "crush" on leap day then let them take it where they wanted it to go.

I can understand the allure of being courted. My husband's family were too New Age that he would ever dream of courting a girl in the old-fashioned way. So I had to do ALL the pursuit. Still, it was a six year effort that was well worth the outcome!!
