BEANS ON TOAST!!
Nov. 17th, 2012 09:27 amGood Morning World!!
Having cheered myself by googling images of unicorns and rainbows, I am now enjoying a delicious plate of Beans on Toast (USA Style).
Do you eat Beans on Toast? If so please share your recipe!!
You might say how silly to ask a recipe for Beans on Toast. Not so! I am sure there are a million variants.
My toast is whole wheat. I prefer not to butter. My beans are Hanover Baked Beans with Brown Sugar and Bacon (they are from the dollar store and one can is big enough to last all week, so I'm not picky). They are doctored with brown mustard and Lee &Perrins Worcester Sauce. I like a bit of sliced cheddar on top.
This morning my husband cooked, so there was also a fried egg and some canadian bacon.
Yum! I'm now ready to face the day and there is a yard sale around the corner. toodles!

Date: 2012-11-18 05:11 am (UTC)Whole wheat toast = a must. Buttered, usually, though not necessary.
Beans = Heinz Baked Beans. A favourite variant would be the Heinz Baked Beans with Maple Syrup flavouring.
I have never doctored my baked beans with anything when they've gone on toast, but if I ever make Bullets and Buckshot, then Lee & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce and mustard (often French's, but if there's better, then whatever that is) will be the additions of choice. :)

Date: 2012-11-19 12:41 pm (UTC)The hot dog portions are the bullets, and the beans are the buckshot. I have never heard anyone call it "Bullets and Buckshot" outside my family, but since that's very much not their style (my mother wouldn't have even known what buckshot was), I know it came from "outside", so-to-speak. Yet I just did a Google search on it and couldn't find any references. Ah well.

Date: 2012-11-19 02:14 pm (UTC)The phrase "buckshot and bullets" makes me think of a song from the awesome Tank Girl soundtrack, by Ice T called "Big Gun" at about 2 minutes in.
It's goin' down. Yo the girl got a gun, best run.
Because she's quick to flip and empty out the clip,
and make a man understand where she's comin' from.
She walks softly but she carries a big gun.
The most venomous feminist, homie, she ain't soft.
You give her trouble then she might cut your head off.
Living life to the fullest, buck shot and bullets.
Triggers she'll pull it, Earth she wanna rule it.
So stay the hell out her way, cuz the girl don't play, NONE.
She walks softly but she carries a big gun.
***
Now I'm imagining Rose Tyler and Tank Girl teaming up! :D

Date: 2012-11-18 10:15 pm (UTC)I don't know how you make it; I discovered it at the Village Tavern, where I can no longer go since I don't live in either Winston-Salem or Atlanta anymore. The trade-offs we make in life...

Date: 2012-11-19 11:12 am (UTC)You should try a bit of grated cheese on top of beans on toast. It does make the comparison to a beans on tortilla more obvious. :)
Another great thing on an English muffin is Eggs Neptune: Like a deviled egg, but with tuna mixed into the deviled yolk; then served on an English muffin with a white sauce that has a little parmesan in.
