New Gerbils Pic!
Dec. 17th, 2012 09:04 amAs requested, here is a reasonably good picture of my three new adorables.

In the foreground you see my sun-hero, Naranbattar -- see how ginger he is! You can't quite tell that he is ruby-eyed, but if you look closely you can see the difference from his black-eyed brothers.
This pic is a little misleading because as usual, Armstrong is further forward than Aldrin, but Aldrin is actually the biggest. Aldrin is closest to the can. He has a few black whiskers and his blaze is wider. Armstrong is the tiniest and tamest.
They are very sweet with their big bright eyes.

Date: 2012-12-17 02:51 pm (UTC)I don't know if I've ever seen bi-coloured gerbils before. The ones from my childhood were always one colour--the typical desert brown colour for gerbils, I think... though that was a long time ago, so I hope I'm remembering correctly!
I love Naranbattar's fine spray of whiskers.

Date: 2012-12-17 07:09 pm (UTC)These new gerbils are not related to my old clan, and they are completely different colors. They are so pretty though. :)
I made an icon of Naranbattar looking noble with his whiskers. :)

Date: 2012-12-17 07:12 pm (UTC)I wasn't sure what to expect from lab animals, but our new gerbils are very sweet tempered and are friendly towards us.
This morning I thought Naranbattar had gotten out, but he was just sleeping very soundly in the can. That was a relief! Our older gerbils are allowed to roam a little, because they always come back to us and aren't too skittish to catch. :)

Date: 2012-12-18 01:26 am (UTC)Gerbils are so sweet-natured that it makes them very easy to love. These guys were living in a lab in tanks, and yet they are curious and friendly, amenable to being handled and petted, and they haven't tried to bite at all.
They have amazing personalities. The number one gerbil trait is curiosity. They will come out of hiding to investigate, and when they hear you come into the room, they stand up to greet you, and look right into your face with their little eyes.
Their tininess is indeed one of the most irresistible things about them. I always think how amazing it is that as mammals, they have a skeleton so similar to ours but on such a miniaturized scale.
