I would really love to post to LJ right now.  Wonder if I will have any luck!

Guess what y'all?  I wrote a poem yesterday!  I went for my walk around the lake and it was really surprisingly beautiful, not as cold and drab and gray as in my head I was fearing.  I'll try to post it when it is ready.

I performed in a dance recital! OMG, it was so nervewracking and the dress rehearsal was abysmal, but then it came together.  I am NOT a dancer, but it's something I try to do to broaden my horizons.  We were in a real performance space with lights and a curtain and everything.... we walked out in the dark to find the little glowing tapes on the floor... it was awesome.  I did a burlesque! and also I was in the group opening number which was to the song by Imagine Dragons.... and as far as I know I did not single handedly bring down the whole tone of the show.  :)  I also read three poems which were introductions to different dances... for one of them I wore my very cute little hat fascinator and got a million compliments, so that was fun. One of the poems was by the poet laureate, who went to my tiny college, and I studied under her dad. That was a little surreal. :)

I had two very fun nail polish combinations and then tried to order a new nail polish from Zappo's but they said it was out of stock and sent me a coupon for something else.  Should I wait and try again to get Layla Mercury Twilight?  (an amazing silver hologram) or should I try for the Layla Ultraviolet hologram? Anybody know where to go in the DC area to shop for high end nail polish?
the combinations were:
for Advent, a purple combo: Maybelline express finish blackberry (140) + Jane Shock Value (41) + glitter topcoat Frenzy (the brand has worn off).
for Christmas, a red and gold combo: Ulta Deck the Halls + OPI Goldeneye.
Both of these combos were excellent for durability, and I could fill in chips almost invisibly because of the glittery topcoats

Has anyone seen the movie The Good Night starring Martin Freeman, because I think it is bad, and I want to know exactly HOW BAD.  Please spoil me for this movie, so I can buy it off ebay for $4 or not.  I love Martin Freeman, and I don't want to unlove him because he plays an irredeemable scuzzbag in a movie that ends stupidly. Help?

I got an AO3 invite from the very sweet Monicawoe.  Now what do I do?  Do I start from the beginning importing, or do I work backwards, or what?  How much of a pain is it to import from LJ (can it even be done?)

Dear friends who've sent me IMs, thanks!  it seems like I've been running into technical difficulties when I try to answer.  I'm not purposefully ignoring you!  Cheers to all!

That's so exciting! I'm glad the real deal went well, even if the rehearsal was worrisome--I've found in my limited stage experience that that is often the case. I'm not sure why, but haha, who's complaining! XD Congratulations on your performance. :))

Thanks!

My son is the dancer in this family -- I'm a musician, and my husband is an actor. So we all get on stage in our own way! But we shake in our boots if boy has to act, husband has to sing, or I have to dance. :P

LJ is breaking.

Kudos and props on the performance!!! What kind of hat is that exactly?

Sorry you had to wait so long for Ao3 - I had no idea you weren't over there. Be prepared - you get a fair amount of hits, very few if any comments, and the occasional "kudos" which I disagree with vehemently - such lazy feedback, ugh. But it is great for archiving and downloading!

Tiny burlesque style hat with turquoise feathers on a headband. It is so awesome.

I'm a little conflicted about archiving. Fanfic has its own fleeting moment in a way. But I have to say if I find an author on AO3 that I like I will burn through every story. :)

I'm sad about LJ. The comms, the comms!!

I hooked up with fandom in a lurky way back on the old listservs. LJ was a huge step forward. Sigh... I've been on LJ for more than five years, so I'm not surprised it is going the way of all things.

Dean is not wearing a fascinator. He is wearing a real hat, and looking damn good in it. Did you see that ep of s7? Alex Krycek was/is a huge crush of mine. :D

How high end a polish are you looking for? Brands like Chanel ($27) and Deborah Lippman ($18) you can find at Nordstrom; Illamasqua, D&G, Ciate, Nails Inc. Dior, YSL, and Jin Soon (as well as less expensive brands like Spa Ritual, etc.) at Sephora. Butter London you can find at Sephora or Ulta., etc.

I don't mind buying polish at CVS but I also enjoy salon levels of quality and all the unique colors. I've never set foot in a Sephora so that may have to change. :)

The Chanel hologram is the best I've seen other than the Layla. :)

I did not know Ulta had its own store -- looks like there is one at Fr. Crossing. I'll probably end up at Annapolis Harbour one of these days...

Yeah, I've definitely migrated toward better quality (and, inevitably) more expensive polishes...though, for my money, Zoya is a mid-range brand (at about $8) with some of the best and most consistent quality I've found (also found at Ulta or, alternatively, directly from zoya at artofbeauty.com) Zoya is currently having a sale (runs through Sunday) where you can get 3 polishes for free (but have to pay $10 s/h) OR if you buy $25 worth of stuff, you get the 3 free polishes, and free shipping, if you use ZOYA2013 coupon code. It's a good way to try them out on the cheap, if you've never used them before.

I like the look of a number of Chanel and DL, etc. polishes, but $15+ is really more than I'm generally willing to spend on a bottle of polish and the Julep brand, to me, is ample evidence that price does not always guarantee quality or consistency. I do want that Chanel hologram though. *sighs*

Ulta and Sephora are good places because they carry a lot of different brands at different price points.

thanks for the coupon code! Nail polish in unique colors is such a fun treat, and the Layla that wasn't available was supposed to be one of my stocking stuffers. :)

you're not alone in fighting with lj I assure you, it's been hit and miss for me now for almost three weeks straight and i'm getting seriously annoyed by it.

congrats on the dance recital though, sounds like fun :)

thanks!

I hope LJ will calm down soon. I have a DW account and today I refreshed it with a password that I hope I can remember, but that's as far as I've gotten over there.

Are there any DW comms I should join?

Cheers!

I haven't joined many over there yet, just things like ones that help with layout questions, and the maintenance and news ones, oh and a couple of lj ones who've set up there just in case but not moved yet.

check my profile for those if your interested, same name as here :)

Congratulations on the dance recital! And on joining A03 - my advice: don't load all your stories up all at once or they might get overlooked amongst all the other posts for that day and then you'll be sad and dejected (ahem that's what I tell myself anyway). If I did it over I'd have just posted my current WIP a chapter a day until I'd caught that up, and then started the backlist the same way. You can import from LJ, it works ok, but last time I tried it was hard to import chapters after the fact, so you had to get them all at once. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the very helpful AO3 advice. One at a time sounds like a great way to go.
