logospilgrim that today is Severus Snape's birthday! Most of you probably don't know how much I love Snape since I was a big loserly lurker in the heyday of my involvement with the Potterverse. I am Ravenclaw to the core, but I love Snape so much. He is so unhuggable, and I want to hug him SO MUCH. Anyway, Happy 53rd Birthday, Severus! Enjoy being alive and well and running an apothecary in Spain.

Also, I committed some very fun crack this morning that made me smile a lot. It is a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan slashy comment fic over at

jessicaqueen's journal. I hope you enjoy her very fine ficlet and that our fun interchange will make you smile. None of it is rated over teen and it is not at all explicit.

Here is my poem about taking a walk around the lake in January. I hope you enjoy it!

Morning Walk, January

In winter's long dark, we bed down
in dens of ice. Days, weeks,
months pass; a few dim gleams
of sun leach down the closed tunnel,
marking time till the sun returns.

The long descent of December into darkness
relents at last. January brings new light,
lures us out into thin bright air.
Uncurling, we stretch our legs, flex muscles,
breathe life back into tired old bones.

Trees raise their gray arms to the clouded sky,
stark but for nests: crows' heaps of sticks;
squirrels' haphazard bundles of leaves;
one oriole's carefully woven knit bag;
these trees, now bare, will be homes again.

The earth goes around the sun, and people go around the lake:
The sun throws off its covers with their vermeil satin edges
as clouds become soft alchemical exhalations, brilliance
of gold and silver shimmering on the water, a thousand fogs
and glimmers: every gray and blue, from slate to diamond ---

The sun shines.

The earth turns.

A merganser dives,
and it will emerge soon, where, when?
white head feathers flashing up out of the dark.
