LUCY review
Jul. 28th, 2014 04:20 pmI just got back from watching Lucy. !!!!!
Suffice it to say that I now want to marathon all my favorite Luc Besson movies in a row, in particular, the Professional and The Fifth Element.
Besson himself describes the movie as part The Professional, part Inception, part 2001: A Space Odyssey. While I cared little about Inception, I think the other two are spot on. But also Lucy feels to me like a continuation of the concepts Besson played with in The Fifth Element -- but Lucy is a bit more subtle.
I had some tiny Avengers with me who also watched the film.
Natasha thought the lead was a bit cold in parts but sympathized with her desire to live and her goals and overall arc.
Clint thought she was hot and wanted to be the French police captain.
Steve liked the movie a lot. He got all the 2001 references right away. Even though it made Bucky cry, Steve liked the message and thought Bucky got a lot out of it (otherwise he wouldn't have cried).
Natasha was not allowed to take her handguns into the theatre (that may be appropriate for an ex-Soviet assassin, but we're trying to get beyond that), but Hawkeye took his "stealth sniper bow" and Steve took his shield. The theatre wasn't very crowded so Bucky kept his cool. I don't know how many secret knives he is carrying.

Date: 2014-07-29 12:29 am (UTC)Such a fun movie and so fun visually!
I feel like this has been a great year for movies, with Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive, Besson's Lucy, and Snowpiercer... plus HER, also starring Scarlett Johannson, and of course, The Winter Soldier, which ate my brain alive.
I still need to see that freaky Scottish film Scarlett was in, "Under the Skin."
But wow, what a great bunch of movies recently!
