So I couldn't take it any longer, I went to my used DVD store and bought Captain America: The First Avenger, Push, and The Losers.

(I am really looking forward to Captain America: The Winter Soldier coming out soon on DVD, and I hope that Snowpiercer will also have a DVD release in October 2014???)

The first Cap movie is by far not my favorite. The stuff with the Red Skull puts me to sleep (literally).  Not enough Bucky.  However, I had to see more Peggy, more Steve, and of course more Bucky Barnes!!  All the stuff that is directly about Steve is very watchable... but somehow the other parts seem really dumb.  :(

I will probably have to get the Avengers movie as well (anyone have a copy they want to sell?)

After seeing Snowpiercer, which ROCKED, I wanted more Chris Evans, so I went after these two other movies.

Spoilers below!  but I'll try not to give too much away if you haven't seen them.

THE LOSERS 2010
I guess you should want to watch this movie for the cast, which has Jason Patric (from Lost Boys) as the villain; Chris Evans as a funny hacker type; John Winchester, aka Jeffrey Dean Morgan, as the Leader, Idris Elba as his second in command, and Zoe Saldana as the Girl.  There are also several other good folks in the movie who I didn't recognize.  I really liked both the sniper "Cougar" and the driver "Pooch", plus the villain's Henchman, Wade (who was pretty much Brock Samson).
This whole movie has a complete comic book feel, being adapted from the 32 issue Vertigo title penned by Andie Diggle.  The  concepts, dialogue, staging, and plot are all very comic book.  That said, if you like that sort of thing, you should like the movie. The resemblance to A-Team is astonishing.  JDM does a fine job, but it was Chris I enjoyed the most, plus Pooch and Cougar who were very likable.  Saldana has some great action sequences, so if you enjoyed Gamora, you should probably seek this out.
There was a bonus sequence at Arecibo for no reason at all, but that made me very happy because when I went to PR last year, I kind of pilgrimaged to Arecibo as one of the great Geek Meccas of the world.  It does not disappoint, and I was TOTALLY THERE.  :D
Question:  didn't Andie Diggle ever write for Supernatural??

PUSH 2009
a movie about mental powers mutants vs. the people who want to control them.  Chris plays Steve again, but his ally is a little girl, played by Dakota Fanning, who can kind of see the future. (Fanning was born in 1994, so I guess she was 14 when this movie was filmed, and she does a fantastic job).  Another kid in this is the stellar Colin Ford as young Chris Evans!!
The love interest girl was not the best in the world, but was tolerable.  the villains were scary, and some of them were led by Djimon Hounsou, who can be super scary when he wants to!
All the various mind powers are a little confusing at first, but it does all fall into place and the movie makes sense as a whole, which I think is important.
Also Ming Na-Wen, Melinda May, is in it, for all you SHIELD fans!  and she is pretty cool.

In sum, if you like Chris in action films, you will like these movies.  In Push, he does more scowling if you prefer sad Chris, whereas in The Losers he cracks the wise as fun Chris, plus wearing great t shirts, all of which I now want.

In other news I bought my Bucky boots today!!!  The Winter Soldier is wearing some glam on the feet end.
They are 9 hole pewter Aimilie Dr. Martens.    In the pix you cannot see the beautiful glittery finish of the soft pewter suede.  of course Bucky will not be wearing the silver satin laces, but regular old black laces.  These boots I think will transition easily from my Bucky cosplay to dressy daywear. :D  Now Bucky has pants, a jacket, boots, a belt, and still needs a metallic silver lamé glove.... if anyone has one to give or sell, I'd really appreciate it, as lamé gloves that are durable seem super hard to find.  Also still need need pads, shoulder harness, and bike gloves.  But I'm doing very well for early August!!

i really like the losers. (i think i was originally made to watch it for jdm, altho chris might've been a nice bonus.) it has a whole different feel than the comics, altho plot-wise they're super similar - the comics aren't as goofy and there are no petunias.

andy diggle never wrote for spn, tho. far as i know he never wrote for tv.

i've only ever seen push on tv and now i feel the need to watch it from the beginning, uncut. i always thought it was a little weird and kind of claustrophobic, but in a good way. and djimon hounsou is always worth watching.

Thanks for the reccs of these two movies -- I enjoyed them. :)

The Losers does have a strong comic book feel to it. I had read several titles with Andy Diggle but nothing that really stuck in my mind... I hadn't read the Losers. I loved the casting tho. Chris was great in the wisecracking role, he seemed to be having the most fun. :)

Push was also better than I expected, especially the whole "filmed on location" vibe that lent it a certain atmosphere. Dakota Fanning was pretty amazing for her age and she and Chris worked really well together. :D

Some people just cannot take the strong subject matter... but I thought it was a terrific movie. I'm so happy that it will be getting a DVD release, though it is definitely visually beautiful on the big screen. :D

I like "The Losers" with it's kickass soundtrack and JDM and Chris Evans playing a character named Jensen (though I'm having a hard time to link that Chris Evans to Cap!Evans). :D

And OMG, you've been to Arecibo!?! That is so cool!!

Yes, Arecibo is super cool. It is so wild to be there.... huge radio antennae are a very cool thing. Even tho my NASA friends tell me that it's not much in use anymore.

Chris's character of Jensen is the best thing about Losers. Also, it is fun to watch him play a fun, wacky kind of guy. He does a fantastic job with the somber, Steve Rogers/Curtis Everett/Push type characters, but you know there is all this happy fun in him that should also have a chance to bubble out. :)
