Chris Evans in Cellular
Aug. 11th, 2014 11:20 pmI have a reasonably large movie library, and sure enough, I do still actually have Cellular ten years later!! :)
Cellular was made in 2004. It has Chris Evans, which is why we just rewatched it.
It has Jason Statham, which is probably why we bought it in the first place. (I freaking love Statham.)
It has Richard Burgi!!! aka Jim, the Sentinel... but he has a very small role.
plus, William H Macy and Kim Basinger!!
What I remembered was that Statham did a good job being very very menacing. I didn't remember Chris Evans at all. To be fair, he is not my type. The big buff blond guys are not my thing. But Chris was actually really good in this movie! We enjoyed it a lot on the rewatch!
Bonus for Chris fans, you get to see his tattoos. He has a very nice bull (not necessarily a Taurus) on his left arm, and his right arm says LOYALTY. The kanji on his left arm means "Family Name", as in, to honor one's family name.

(He has at least two more tats now, one in memory of Bardsley, his best friend who was killed in an accident, and three lines of text from Eckhart Tolle:
what is the writing of the tattoo on Chris' chest?
“When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself. When you lose touch with yourself, you lose yourself in the world.”
here is a good interview:

It is always fun to watch actors across time. This is ten years ago, and he is still doing very similar things and calling up a similar energy... but the character in Cellular is young, flighty at first, then desperate and clever. He very clearly doesn't like bullies. :D
So if you are a Chris fan but haven't seen Cellular yet, I recommend it! Plus it is always nice to catch a glimpse of Jim Ellison. I still say Sebastian Stan looks a LOT like Garrett Maggart. :P
Next on my list I think will be Sunshine, because I like Danny Boyle's movies a whole lot. :)
