fannishliss: old motel sign says motel beer eat (Default)

My itunes are set on random usually within playlists.  I had on my playlist called "Morning is Awesome" which has a lot of songs to get us going in the morning.   This song by Sleater Kinney called Get Up came on.  It is a fairly awesome song.  If you do not know Sleater-Kinney, they were a power girl group from Olympia in the 90s and were highly critically acclaimed for their amazing songs, which are full of energy and drive and nifty harmonics. (Carrie Brownstein now makes Portlandia, the tv show, and was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the top 25 most under-rated guitarists of all time -- primarily because I think their style is so edgy.) The main singer has a kind of a Grace Slick vibe, but this particular song is a combination of like David Byrne recitations and Gang of Four baselines.  Primarily to dig Sleater-Kinney (they are named after a street) you have to really study their songs and then they are irresistible.  So, I decided to google the lyrics and learn what "get up" is about.

Lo and behold, it is the Master, singing to the Doctor, complete with full on dissociative disorder (Sleater Kinney have more than one singer, so there are multiple voices singing simultaneously).  SERIOUSLY READ THE LYRICS.

Does this happen to other people?  Sometimes when I hear a song it's like doors fly open in my head with characterizations and plotlines etc. I mean, I don't even ship Doctor/Master really!!!

Still, I feel I owe it to y'all to share this mini-playlist.  [livejournal.com profile] jessicaqueen I'm talking to you!

I wouldn't really watch the youtubes, just listen and read the lyrics. :)
