Celebrate Bisexuality Day!
Sep. 23rd, 2014 02:00 pmHere is a very nice article at Huffington Post that has several people's different comments about why it's important to celebrate Bisexuality.

For me personally, I've been married to a man for 21 years and appear cis gendered. But that's not the whole story... I don't think everyone has a label, nor should everyone need to be labelled, but the LGTBQA acronym just keeps getting longer, and I think that is a good thing. For everyone who is somehow Q, celebrate today!
Diversity is strength. \o/
Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from that page:
"I celebrate bisexuality because it breaks down binaries [and helps us embrace] the fluidity of sexuality and gender." - Eliel Cruz, Journalist at The Advocate
"Blessed are you, Adonai our G!d, Holy One of Blessing, who allows us to be open about our lives, see beyond gender and blesses us with myriad affections to share with our loved ones." This blessing is personal, and yet adaptable to the many ways we live our lives." - Martin Rawlings-Fein, Director, Bay Area Bisexual Network

Date: 2014-09-24 09:23 pm (UTC)Just to take a small example -- I never knew there was such a thing as slash before the internet. (I was alive a long time before the internet!!) So when I discovered that other women were making slash I was so elated -- I was not alone! (I wrote my first slash in 1984 I guess.) Over time our communities have grown and now people know there are so many ways to be. For example, visibility for people who are asexual has certainly grown in the last few years -- whereas before, there was little knowledge and people were made to feel broken.
So I think helping people to identify with groups is useful.
I don't fit usefully into a group, which is a little weird for me... but the more I learn about different orientations the closer I come to understanding myself along the spectrum. When my yearnings and/or impulses can be named, they are more easily understood/celebrated....

... and today I saw a fun vid that showed Captain America making moon eyes sequentially at Peggy, Bucky, Sharon, and Sam, while the music sang BI BI BI at him. :D I am positive Steve is Bi, and the idea that tons of people agree makes me super happy. :D
