It wasn’t what he’d said that haunted her, it was the look in his eye. And despite what she’d told him — that she almost believed she deserved it — it really wasn’t true.
In the end, his very cruelty, the empty self-absorption in his eyes, told her who he really hated. Not her — a random hookup — a girl he’d shown a good time, a party he’d thought about taking on the road, an excuse to beat a man almost to death — it wasn’t her he hated.
It was himself.
So Ann-Marie shrugged back her shoulders and lifted her chin and promised herself she’d do better.
Better walked in the bar not two days later.
“Have you seen this man?” Agent Kilmister asked her. As if she didn’t know who Lemmy Kilmister was.
“Yeah, that’s Dean. He’s already gone, and Crowley went after him,” she told the big guy wearily.
He peered down at her, huge and wounded, hurt deep back in his eyes, the kind of hurt she’d seen in the mirror.
“You sure you want to find him?” Ann-Marie asked the big guy. “He beat my ex half to death over nothing.” Not nothing, really — but it was hard to keep Dean straight in her head. Good guy? Bad guy? Lover? Hater? He was all of it crushed into one mottled perfection.
He shrugged back his shoulders and lifted his chin. “Yes, I’m sure.”
“Well, good luck, then,” Ann-Marie said. “I hope you find him. Just, you know, be careful.”
The big guy met her eyes and she met his. Their sadness matched up around the corners of Dean’s careless smirk, his dangerous swagger and empty laughter.
“You too,” he said, and went, and Ann-Marie was left behind, sadder, wiser, but just a little stronger. Dean hadn’t taken her down the notch he’d planned. She pinned her standards a little higher and kept on keeping on.

title from Killed by Death by Motorhead.
Sammy shows his ID in ep 2, and I'm pretty sure it was Lemmy Kilmister. I’m assuming he’s carrying the same one in ep1, but let me know if I’m wrong.

Isn't that a crazy lyric??
my favorite Motorhead song is not the most famous. It is a Demon Dean one for sure, that was on heavy rotation in my itunes back in s4. I owe it to some spn fan who I don't remember!! thanks whoever you are!!

Loved this line He peered down at her, huge and wounded, hurt deep back in his eyes, the kind of hurt she’d seen in the mirror.

Date: 2014-10-16 03:21 pm (UTC)Sam's woundedness in these first two eps is amazing. I am sorry Jared got hurt (bows to Master Chau) but the shoulder sling really works with Sam's overall state, externalizing the brutality of what he's going through. Wow, Jared is so good these days. I think he is just getting better and better.

Date: 2014-10-16 03:24 pm (UTC)Sam must've gone to the place where he knew Dean was... tho tbh idk if he actually had time in the canon timeline to visit the Black Spur, I needed him and Ann-Marie to meet. So, timeline, eat my fudge. :D
*looks around shiftily, expecting Hells_Half_Acre to zipline down in to my den and chasten me severely*

Date: 2014-10-18 12:56 pm (UTC)I love it, I love the parallels you drew between Anne Marie and Sam, and the hurt at varying levels and in varying ways that Dean has put them through.
Such great characterization for such a minor character, just awesome :) Lovely work :)
