BUCKY AND STEVE DOG TAGS!!!!!
Oct. 17th, 2014 05:17 pmMy Bucky dog tags arrived!!! and they are AWESOME.

When I opened the package I was surprised that the tags were so small. I realize that this is because I used to handle my dad's dogtags when I was little. :) I remember my dad had a lot of respect for his tags (he enlisted during the Korean War and spent three years at Fort Bragg in North Carolina) and I wasn't supposed to mess with them. Now, that sense of respect carries over to these tags (!) so I feel like I won't wear them much until I am properly dressed as Bucky. I have a lot of capacity for investing things with meaning.
My headcanon for why and when Bucky and Steve wore mixed tags is not firm, but in my head, I think they might have traded after Steve rescued Bucky from Zola, maybe on the way to London to find out whether Steve would be courtmartialed or not. In such a narrative, they definitely would have traded tags by the time the SSR made them part of the Howling Commandos. Steve is like, they didn't courtmartial me for running off against orders, what will they really do if they find my body wearing a mixed set of tags. It seems like to wear another man's tags would have been risking a "blue ticket," but after Steve rescued Bucky from Hydra, I think they would have made vows (if they hadn't already). Plus, SSR gave Steve a lot of authority to run his own missions and answer to nobody but Peggy, who, in my headcanon, knew all about Steve and Bucky. :D
In this scenario, Steve's mixed tags would have still been on him when he woke up, so Fury and Maria would know who Bucky was to Steve.... and sadly, I think Hydra would have pulled Bucky's tags off him and left them in the snow where he fell, because they are horrible like that. ):
These tags cost less than $15 to order from www.mydogtag.com including shipping and a nice green canvas pouch for storage. They are perfect.
They even will sell you Winter Soldier and Captain America dogtags that they have already put together -- that's where the serial number for Steve comes from. It is a legitimate Officer's number. Of course I made up Steve and Bucky's address in Brooklyn Heights based on my favorite building for them. :) And on Bucky's dogtag I have him listed as a Protestant, and Steve is clearly Catholic. :D

Date: 2014-10-18 05:18 pm (UTC)I spent a lot of time viewing google street map before I settled on their building. It has a lovely entrance. The thing about Brooklyn Heights was that it was originally a very lovely neighborhood, but had come down in the world by the time of the depression, so the lovely old buildings were divided up into much smaller flats. Steve must have loved it though. Brooklyn Heights had "good air" which I think was why Bucky pushed him into it. :D

Date: 2014-10-18 05:20 pm (UTC)I have to repeatedly take the tags out of their pouch to handle them. :D
I think I will be going about in all black next week with my hair in my face and Bucky's dogtags on, and as much black eyeliner as I can muster. :D
