Moonlight Serenade
Jul. 20th, 2016 09:56 pm
"Can you imagine it, Stevie? Men walking on the moon."
"People have done a lot of amazing things..."
"But this one thing seems really, really swell."
"The moon is perfect, whether men have walked on it or not."
"True."
...
"I stand by your door, and the song that I sing is of moonlight...."
"Bucky, you sure are a sap."
"You love it."
"Yes, I do."
"....Anyhow, stop yappin and try not to super-trample my toes."
"Yes, dear."

Here's a fun article about how maybe there is a better tape somewhere of the moon landing.

Here is a link to the famous fuzzy clip of Armstrong saying the thing:

(fun fact, my gerbil is named Armstrong after the astronaut, because he is a science hero)
And here is a link to the beautiful song by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, 1939.

In case you were wondering, July 20 is celebrated as Moon Day. :D

Date: 2016-07-21 04:02 pm (UTC)Armstrong, my gerbil, was a "lab rat" so he is named after a Science Hero. His brother was named Aldrin. (Their other brother, Naranbattar, had a traditional Mongolian name because Gerbils are from Mongolia. It means "sunshine hero" :)

Date: 2016-07-21 03:58 pm (UTC)I have a digital camera, not a smartphone, so I have to insert the memory card into the computer every time to load up the pictures.... but I do remember the old days, of taking a roll of 24 and mailing it off, and waiting ten days, and then seeing what I got!! :)

Date: 2016-07-22 09:38 am (UTC)The full moon in July is called "Buck Moon" -- ie, the deer have their antlers grown in by this time. It was funny to me that several people mentioned the "Buck Moon" when usually no ones mentions that kind of thing unless there's an eclipse or a blue moon or something. :)
I love that song so much!
