January 2!
Jan. 2nd, 2018 09:20 amHappy Science Fiction Day! I had no idea there was a science fiction day. Apparently it is the birthday of Isaac Asimov (1920 - 1992), beloved SF writer of yore, to whom we owe the laws of Robotics. :) A thing I did not know was that he was a professor of biochemistry at Boston University. My favorite book by Isaac Asimov is David Starr, Space Ranger. :D
I am happy this morning, thinking about dreams and aspirations. I don't really make "resolutions" but I do have some hopes for 2017:
-- lose weight, as always, but especially because the new blood pressure standards are lower than they used to be.... so if I could get my blood pressure to go back to 120 over 80, that would be a big health win. (mine is around 130 over 85-90 or so, which is okay by the old standards if not great, but way too high by the new standards).
-- practice my instruments more. I have a lot of instruments in the house, and even if I only spent half an hour every day, I could practice different instruments and get up to speed on them.... especially the recorder (which I used to play pretty well, and am now very rusty), the hammered dulcimer, and the electric bass. :)
--get my danged novels in shape!!!!! I can't believe how long my gerbil novel has been on the shelf. This has to be the year!!!!
-- actually get my kitchen renovated. I am a little torn about it, to be honest..... we do have a functional kitchen and it seems like a waste to spend money on gutting it for a redesign.... but it would be a lot more functional and comfortable if we do it... so 2018 seems like the year for it!!
2018 will bring my son's 18th birthday, my 25th wedding anniversary, and my 50th birthday. Also, 2018 is the 200th anniversary of the publication of Frankenstein. Wow!! Hopefully a banner year. :D
Any aspirations out there that you might need coaching or moral support?
Now, for the first two entries for Fandom Snowflake. :D

Date: 2018-01-02 04:41 pm (UTC)I don't enjoy getting rid of things. I invest a lot of personality and energy in inanimate objects, like old cabinets that need to be torn out and replaced with better ones. :P

Date: 2018-01-03 01:20 pm (UTC)I get this email called "national day calendar" that is a highlight of every day. For example:
January 3, 2018 β NATIONAL CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRY DAY β NATIONAL DRINKING STRAW DAY β NATIONAL FRUITCAKE TOSS DAY
Who knew drinking straws had a day???? There is often something fun to be learned from the national day calendar.... but a lot of times it's more a celebration of some form of chocolate (today cherries).
Hey, not so fast with that random box!! Never know when you might have a cat to put in it.....

Date: 2018-01-04 02:37 am (UTC)I feel like fruitcake tossing is probably on some kind of Terror List. Or at least, the supposed list of FBI Registered Deadly Weapons.
