Very simply, I want to be more a part of fandom again.  I gave facebook a chance in 2017 but it just doesn't do it for me. Livejournal (and/or Dreamwidth) are so much nicer in terms of forming communities.  I really want to be part of fannish community again.  I also want to post things and have people actually respond.  I've gotten a lot of joy from AO3 but it is so important to me to have real friends across the internet.

I joined LJ on Nov 8, 2007... ten years later, I feel like today is a good day to be more fannish on the internet!

Ao3 is good for reading and commenting on fic but fic isn't personal in the same way as LJ posts can be - you can't even really do a rec post on AO3 and chat about the fic you just read that blew your mind, or made you cry or laugh, or just irritated the hell out of you.

Tumblr is useless for conversing, Twitter is just insane (plus conversations are open to anyone to read so vulnerable to trolling), DW is clunky. It's LJ all the way for me and yay for your return!

My son liked Tumblr for a while but I couldn't see conversations happening much there. It was like, here's a neat pic! and everyone was like, yeah!! Or, a short ficlet, or chapters. I have seen a lot of fic that migrates onto AO3 from tumblr, but mostly it is made in small batches.

I always criticize Facebook for its dumb format issues.... LJ is a really elegant journalling platform, and clearly, the community aspect is fantastic. :D
