Leave me a comment and I will give you a letter. Then, write 12 things that you love starting with that letter. Post the list in your journal. Give out letters to those who comment in return.
The letter davincis_girl gave me is “J"
1. J begins the name of my boy.
2. J stands for both Jensen and Jared, admirable actors who work hard to make my favorite show of all time the best it can be.
3. JALAPENOS! especially the ones I've grown in my own little garden.
4. Jambalaya. We have a big fondness for spicy food in general, and for celebrating Mardi Gras in particular. we are big on celebrating and find festivals throughout the year!
5. Jingo - lo - ba! This is the original drum tune by Babatunde Olatunji, that was later covered by Santana. Both versions are spectacular, but it is worth a dollar to go over to iTunes and buy this original. Olatunji was a Nigerian who attended Morehouse College on a Rotary scholarship, and then he made a name for himself in New York City (where he went to study public administration) by teaching Nigerian drumming, befriending John Coltrane, and writing such amazing tunes as this.
6. John Henry, the folk hero, who may have been digging his tunnel in West Virginia, was also the hero of one of the first ballads I ever learned, and now I am a ballad singer, and i always perform John Henry.
7. Justice -- the kind we build by honoring the powerless as much as the powerful.
8. Jewelry. As i sit here, I am wearing earrings (glass scarabs); four rings (my wedding ring, my baby ring, a turquoise ring, and a silver ring from Avon that i've worn for about thirty years); a big silver cuff bracelet; and a bead bracelet given to me to raise money for children in Darfur. Unusually, I'm not wearing a necklace, but it should've been my St. Cecilia medal, since I was singing this evening.
9. Judaism. My good friend is converting to Judaism, which makes me rejoice on her behalf. Thank you, Judaism, for embracing another awesome person who begins with J.
10. Journeying -- both the kind of vacation where you see where the road takes you; and the mental state where you follow a vision to see where it leads you.
11. Joyfulness. I love it when people are enthusiastic (but also kind about it in the way expressed by Joyfulness.)
12. Jokesters. My husband has a tee shirt from his old improv group that reads, "you may love improv, but would you MARRY IT?" the answer is yes, and i haven't regretted it for a second!!
13. Jesus. Special Answer #13, obligatory for committed Christians, even far left liberal ones like myself!!
14. Frivolous answer #14: Jagermeister. it has a deer on the label. it tastes like licorice. it puts your head in a very strange place. drink it slowly and certainly when you don't need to go anywhere anytime soon!
