THING A: Husband is acting in a very funny one-act in the Capital Fringe Festival. Email me at fannishliss at gmail if you'd like to know which show. There are many awesome things to see there!
THING B: I just drafted A BIG FLIST OF LOVE. and then it DISAPPEARED. :(
Well, if you are on my flist I hope you KNOW ALREADY WHY I LOVE YOU.
If not feel free to type "me" in the comment, and I will give you a short summary.
There are a few nice reccs and things in the spanonymous but they are drowned in the bad.
So here is my promise to YOU:
if you ever want my honest opinion, just let me know, and I will comment either in your lj or privately. I will also happily delete anything that makes you sad. I am an honest critic and I am not mean. I joined LJ to comment, and I am not entirely happy with the way I feel the need to stifle my critical reactions.

Date: 2009-07-13 06:11 pm (UTC)I say, in a totally self-referential and needy way: me. Please?
I think it is possible to offer honest critique without being personally insulting. If you haven't developed that skill, then you have no business critiquing *anything*. You cannot give a critique if you're going to be totally subjective about it.
I've never felt you engaged in such activity, however. You seem like an actual grown-up to me. ;->

Date: 2009-07-13 06:52 pm (UTC)I like having you on my flist because you are a ready commenter, which makes me feel less alone! I am a person who does not make friends quickly. My bff and I hated each other on sight! But that was 22 years ago!! I like people who are very intense, and who are not afraid to do this thing we call communication on a deeper level.
I also like it because you are very honest about the challenges of being a mom. Unless I am mistaken, you are fairly introverted and need a certain amount of personal time to recharge -- like me -- and it makes it SO hard when you have to direct so much outward energy to that fabulous little bundle of joy. You are doing such a good job staying honest and on-track with Hari, and she's going to learn to be SO STRONG from you.
I think I friended you originally over matters of taste -- like songs we share in common and that sort of thing. But as time has passed I feel we've gotten to know each other -- and that's not something I take lightly!
Also I like working with you, and I like your style!
I'm imagining on the one hand, a firebird dripping pearls, and on the other hand a boiling pot of sextoys!! :)

Date: 2009-07-14 12:57 am (UTC)You always hurt Dean and/or Jensen! You are the woobie maker! but you always make Jared or Sam love him and take care of him anyway.
I'm glad you have chosen to study writing because your talent deserves the time you've devoted to it.
If you ever wish me to give you the HARSH going over, I am available because you know I love you! My harsh response will be something like " I did not agree with this word choice!!" :)
hugs

Date: 2009-07-14 09:47 am (UTC)I know what you mean r/e drowned in the bad. Sigh.
It's way too late/early (can't sleep, argh) for me to type up my whole thing about critical reactions and why I write fanfic vs. why I write original fiction, but it boils down to: Fanfic is very much a fun place for me. I rarely have stories beta'ed because I write them for fun (and I have a good grasp on grammar/style/spelling/etc.). If people like them, yay! If not, no big—they can move on to the next thing. But if someone is reading my original fiction, or if I do ask for a beta (typically only for stories that are a reach for me in some way or that I've written for the rare occasions I participate in challenges/exchanges/remixes/etc.), I definitely want MOAR CRITIQUE PLS. If somebody leaves a critical reaction in a comment, I'll think it over and respond to it, but it's not what I'm after, if that makes sense.
Wow, that was a whole lot longer than I intended for it to be! :) Also, I owe you an email.

Date: 2009-07-14 03:44 pm (UTC)The most blasphemous thing I have enjoyed by you was that samndean thing in the Baltimore Basilica, which was awesome. I was very much Scarred by it, but in the way where I'm still smiling!! 8D
I really like you for your direct nature. Your stories have a really distinct feel of the everyday, even though they are set in imaginative worlds. You write with a sense of ownership, expertise, that makes me trust that you know what is going on. Especially your treatment of gender in your characters fascinates me -- the way you work with how being a woman or a man resonates throughout a character, subtly altering how they move through the world, yet are still that same character.
I feel like the Southern and Women's College backgrounds that we share are a good basis for further growth in our friendship. I hope you can come over when you get back from Basting in the Deep South. Perhaps for dinner? We are awash in organic veg and locally produced Meat.
PS, I apologize if I Spoiled you in my email re 2.1 of Torchwood. I didn't realize it was so recent.
