There is a March Madness where one can vote in the Sweet Sixteen of the episodes of Supernatural.  I was pretty surprised at how closely my favorites match up with the majority of other voters!!  Anyway, I thought it would be fun to cogitate on the contests.
================
Mystery Spot 42 (60.9%) vs A Very Supernatural Christmas 27 (39.1%)
It surprises me that A Very Supernatural Christmas did not do better against Mystery Spot, since it has the Most Heartwarming Moment of Sam giving Dean the amulet.   However, Mystery Spot has Sam totally being destroyed by Dean dying again and again, and it shows the kind of Driven Hunter Sam becomes when he isn’t distracted.  I love Mystery Spot, and apparently so does everyone else.
###
Changing Channels 46 (66.7%)  vs Bad Day at Black Rock 23 (33.3%)
Again, Changing Channels is pure comedy gold.  While Bad Day has some excellent moments “i lost my shoe!” Changing Channels has the Sampala, it has Duct Tape Cas, it has Sam operating on Dean with a sewing needle, some dental floss, a pocket knife and a fifth of whiskey, stat!  So again, I am excited to see that I am not alone.  :)
###
Home  20 (29.0%)  vs Lazarus Rising  49 (71.0%)
Wow!  Lazarus Rising is one of my real favorites.  The opening sequence of Dean rising from the grave, robbing the gas station, and making his way back to Bobby’s is one of my favorite sequences of the whole series.  Plus, it came after the series’ most tormenting summer.  Although, Home is a great ep, and we get to meet both Missouri and the ghost of Mary, Lazarus Rising totally rocks my socks off.
###
What Is & What Should Never Be 45 (66.2%) vs Born Under a Bad Sign  23 (33.8%)
WIAWSNB --- my personal choice for why Jensen should have already been awarded an Emmy.  The development through the episode is one of the best insights into who Dean really is-- his yearning for his mom, his desperate desire for domesticity, his drive to make things right with Sam -- but above all else, his sense of duty toward his calling as a Hunter.  Really, a fantastic ep.
BUABS is also great, because of the mindtwists that Meg delivers as she warps Sam into a demon version of himself.  Jared also delivers a great performance in this.  But I still had to vote for WIAWSNB --- and again I am apparently not alone!!
But it’s awesome that these two classic spn acronyms had to pair off. :P
###
The End 53 (77.9%) vs Folsom Prison Blues  15 (22.1%)
I am sure that there is no fan of spn that does not love Folsom Prison Blues.  But The End has such great moments of Dean vs Dean, and orgy!Cas, that it is just too awesome.
###
The Monster at the End of This Book  39 (56.5%) vs Dark Side of the Moon  30 (43.5%)
This is the only one where I bucked the trend.  For me, meeting Chuck was not quite as awesome as going to Heaven.  I loved the effects of travelling through Heaven.  I loved Dean’s memory of giving young Sam the best Fourth of July ever.  I loved Sam’s memory of Bones.  I thought that Zachariah’s Evil Mary is one of the creepiest moments in the whole series.  I loved Ash and Pamela and the Roadhouse in Heaven.  I loved Castiel coming over the radio.  And I loved Joshua, the Gardener, who I still think has secret significance.   Also, I  learned to love Bob Dylan’s version of his own song from this ep, which echoes back to the episode Houses of the Holy in a truly amazing and chilling way.  Nah -- it’s Dark Side of the Moon for me.
####
In My Time of Dying  42 (60.9%) vs  All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 27 (39.1%)
I really loved IMTOD.  I love how Dean is just about to go with Tessa when suddenly John’s deal comes through and Azazel grabs her and sends him back.  I love the ouija board and Sam throughout.  I like John a lot in this ep, but it’s the one where he turns a corner and essentially curses his sons, throwing Dean out of the natural order.  :(
AHBL2 was also great, with Dean bringing Sam back and also killing Azazel. But this is the biggest mythology ep that I’ve watched the least.
###
Devil's Trap  31 (44.9%) vs On the Head of a Pin   38 (55.1%)
Devil’s Trap is another big mytharc ep that I don’t watch very much.  I guess I should watch these more!  But On the Head of a Pin is just such an amazing ep for its place in the overall arc.  It’s also one of the episodes that’s the most quoted in my household.  “i can’t do it, it’s too big.”  and we always console ourselves, “well, at least we didn’t start the apocalypse” and “well, I might’ve messed up, but at least I’m not a torturer in hell.”  :P  I voted for On the Head of a Pin.

Great comments! Perhaps if I'd read your thoughts, I might have changed one or two of my votes.

Every once in awhile, one of the contests surprises me. And along the way, some of my absolute favorites get dropped. Sometime in the first round!

I agree with you about WI&WSNB. Besides it being my all-time favorite episode, I can replay the cemetery scene over and over and over again.
