fannishlissThis was a great episode I thought. Last week, with the time travel into the past, I didn’t have a huge reaction to post. Mostly, I thought Jensen did a good job and I loved Mitch Pileggi. Granpa Skinner! Dean is named after his granny! Granpa makes Sammy’s bitchface!! I also got a big kick out of how quickly we could identify Young John. And Dean choosing the Pinto.
I was glad No Castiel this episode – I really wanted just the brothers. Friend wanttobeatree noticed that fan reactions to Castiel might be pretty different if he were a girl; yeah, but I was just as glad he was gone this ep, hot boy or no. I REALLY wanted the brother time.
I thought the girl playing Ruby did a great job this ep too.
I LOVED the scene where Dean sees Sammy exorcise with his brain.
Poor Sammy, I was very sympathetic. Dean can be pretty intransigent – he’s always been easier to convince about the dangers of monstrosity than Sammy, even before Sam knew that he had demon blood. I was SO GLAD Sam spilled all his secrets. Now he and Dean are on more of an even footing. But there is a legitimate issue of trust there – Sammy’s all Slytherin with his “need to know” basis and Dean’s all Hufflepuff with the bortherly teamwork and trust. (Astolat STILL rules with best crossover evar!)
It was too bad that they got the case from Travis, old Hunter. Old Hunters are too set in their ways. Like Dean said, Old Hunters would hunt Sam.... I was sympathetic again towards Sam in his wanting to talk it through with Jack, though it would really be fighting a losing battle to ask Jack to fight against his nature – it was great that they just walked up to him and told him their names and told him what was happening to him. But where were they when Travis waylayed him? Amateur move, guys! If they had prevented Travis, the whole story could have been different. Also, took Sammy a bit too long to find the coat hanger to pick the lock..... John Winchester would have been somewhat displeased. With his actual lockpicks Sammy can be through a door in about 15 seconds, according to what we’ve seen—and I’m surprised that they aren’t ALWAYS in his hind pocket. Doesn’t he feel naked without them??
I was glad how Show set up that Jack was resisting the tempting Dean feast all laid out for him like a bloody buffet – then Sammy had to toast him anyway.
Kudos that brothers spilled all.
Kudos to Ruby too, for holding her own against Dean and taking the guy to the ER. And to the actor, for her look of PURE WORSHIP when Sam exorcised the guy. Woof.
Not so sure about Sammy and his “I’m not using my powers anymore.” I actually think he should use his powers if he’s able to save people. Turning a curse to a blessing is a good thing by me. Still, I am not at all convinced that Sam will put his powers to rest. And I for one have never bought the “slippery slope” argument – WEAK, Dean. You don’t really know what God wants to stop because Castiel never finishes a thought.
Plus, the only way Sam can leave his powers behind is if he stops hunting. Dean, is that what you want? and you know, Ruby will just come find him.
Poor Sammy. Dean, I’m glad you apologized. You need to go with your gut skepticism regarding what Castiel tells you. And if you call him Cass again, I’m gonna have to get out the diagrams: Cass is your EX-GIRLFRIEND, NOT YOUR ANGEL OF THE LORD.
So far, this season is 4 for 4 by me. I don't know if I've ever said Poor Sammy so sincerely before--I am usually all poor poor Dean-- but not tonight. Definitely! Besides, I like Powers!Sam, because being able to kill demons with your brain? Is awesome. *G* Plus letting hosts die when he could save them seems pretty damn immoral, imo.
Usually I'm all about Dean, too, but in this episode I was filled with Sam love, poor guy. *pats head*
