Disclaimer.  I’m not providing uploads or anything.  Go and buy these songs at .99 a pop.  Metallica will track you down if you don’t!  That’s their right!  Lyrics are quoted out of pure appreciation.

1. Bleeding Me  Load
My personal favorite.  Lyrical genius, melodic range, pure metal thrust, building inexorably.  Just a beautiful song, with Hetfield’s melismatic wail wrapping around Hammett’s beautiful guitar lines.

I’m sowing the seeds, I’m sowing the seeds I’ve taken,
I’m sowing the seeds I take for granted.
This thorn in my side, this thorn in my side is from the tree.
this thorn in my side is from the tree I planted,
ooh it tears me and I bleed!

Hetfield’s lyrics look simple but they carry so much emotion!
I’m pushing to stay with something better!  His pretty falsetto.   I love him.

* I don't know if Dean likes this song.  I think it might strike too close to home for him.

2. King Nothing Load      *DW
This song totally rocks. It’s another song in the vein of Enter Sandman, that cannot be denied.  “And it all crashes down, and you break your crown, and you crook your finger but there’s no one around, just want one thing, just to play the king, and the castle’s crumbled and you’re left with just a name, Where’s your crown King Nothing?”  Hetfield absolutely screams this song in his best metal tones. And Hammett’s guitar work rules.
Careful what you wish, Careful what you say,
Careful what you wish, you may regret it
Careful what you wish, you just might get it!!!

3. Enter Sandman Metallica    *DW obviously!
Undeniably one of the best songs in all of metal, ever.

4. Wherever I May Roam Metallica    *DW, oh hell yeah.
“Rover, Wanderer, Nomad, Vagabone – call me what you will....”

5. Turn the Page Garage Inc.
I really can’t even listen to Bob Seger’s version anymore, I love this one so much.  Hetfield just pours so much emotion into this performance.
Plus we laugh so hard when we imagine the following scene:
Metallica walk into a restaurant, strung out from the road. Hetfield is mistaken for a woman.  Lars Ulrich explodes.

*Again, this song might make Dean slightly uncomfortable.  Though, when he walks into a restaurant, no one has ever mistaken him for a woman. Dude. And he's totally not about to explode, all right?

6.  One And Justice for All.   *DW, the gospel according to Metallica.
Ok, even tho I didn’t Ride the Lightning, back in the day,  I did buy a copy of And Justice For All before the Black Album even came out.  It’s so epic. And Angry.  And it’s based on an awesome anti-war film.  It rocks, and epitomizes the best of the speed metal tradition Metallica rose up out of.

7. Cure  Load    *DW
Everyone seems to have the sickness, cause everyone seems to need the cure. Precious cure!!!  Just like, Where’s your crown, you must be afraid when Hetfield scrapes the bottom of his range.

8. Fuel Reload    *DW; also a favorite of the Impala.
This is one of Hetfield’s favorites, so how can I argue?  Also, he says “Boom! Yeah-heah!”

9.  Sad but True  Metallica
I don’t know, I think it’s just the way he pronounces Sad but True. What can I say, I just love them.

10.  some kind of monster  St. Anger   *DW
The best way to get into the songs off St. Anger is to view the movie, which is an incredibly riveting study of the relationship between Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, primarily, a relationship fraught with dedication, rage, jealousy, control issues, worry and guilt.   You really think Lars is just going to explode (see Turn the Page).

**  supposedly this is the song Dean was humming to calm himself on the plane.

11.  The Unforgiven Metallica
This is what stands in for emo in metal, confessional, personal, and loud.

12. Until it Sleeps Load
Kind of a coda to Bleeding Me.

13. The Memory Remains Reload
guest spot for Marianne Faithful.

14. Whiskey in the Jar      Garage Inc.    *DW
My premise is that to become really great in rock you need a connection to roots music somehow.  Here Metallica covers one of the great Irish ballads.  M’sherring umma der ingum dah!

15.  Mama said.
Metallica do their country song, complete with slide guitar.

16. Loverman. Garage Inc.
Yup, they cover Nick Cave.  Ok, they don’t outdo Cave the way they do IMHO Seger, but still!  It’s the thought that counts.

* favorites of Dean Winchester, so say I.
