===
Silence. Deep, resounding silence.
There used to be chatter, the bickering of cousins, classmates, councillors. There had been conversations, banter, ultimatums, goodbyes. Silence had swallowed it all.
The deserts he had known were red and orange, crimson and gold, fire solidified into fields of stone. This silence was barren, empty whiteness, heat loss to absolute zero. Nothing but silence.
Somehow, he still could move. He could walk, run, speak, but he never expected an answer. That final, awful scream, the scream of millions, had deafened him. The silence, emptiness, madness, was easier.
Then suddenly there she was, gripping his hand, running beside him, arguing, questioning, laughing with him. He'd thought he'd never laugh again.
Life had become a desert, a meaningless wasteland of work and food and sleep — until she came with him.
After the storm the desert blooms, and after the wasteland he'd found one perfect Rose.

Date: 2011-09-14 12:50 pm (UTC)You really see it when he's cradling the Master to him and weeping and railing over him to not die -- after the Master has just tortured him and all his friends for A FULL YEAR. Then the emptiness takes him again after the Specials -- and it's just too much. So now we have Eleven, who is a very different aspect of the Doctor in my book.
In my headcanon, I sent Ten's spirit to live in Cloen's body after his regeneration in "The White Room." I just couldn't bear his desolation. Death should be a door into a new life.... Rose was that life for Nine. :D

Date: 2011-09-14 01:53 pm (UTC)Eleven I think is a bit more eccentric because he has to deal with the aftereffects of 10s time. The Time Lord Victorious I think is one that he is dealing with more than anything else. The idea that time is not in control (waters of Mars) I think is very apparent in this regeneration.
I think it will take alot of work on Eleven's part to understand the Time is in control and that he can't just forget it. It has been shown alot in this season how he tries to manipulate time and it always seems to back fire on him.
He has taken on this godlike persona that I hope they address in this weeks episode. And hopefully he will become less of Time Lord Victorious and become just "the Doctor" once again.

Date: 2011-09-14 02:18 pm (UTC)I like the gentleness of Eleven -- but at the same time I was really shocked and horrified when he started whaling on that Winston Churchill's Dalek!! o_0 He has a lot of rage that he still hasn't processed. :(
Did you read my story "In a White Room" ? It is very stream of consciousness and poetical, but it deals with Ten's psyche post-regeneration. There is canon that the old personalities rest in a "white room" of some sort -- whether it's somehow part of the Tardis or somewhere in the Time Lord mind isn't perfectly clear. Anyways you might like it! it is one of my very favorite pieces but I don't think many people read it.
