I had a good trip to the comic book store today, which made me feel really happy.  Allow me to share.

It's hard to believe that I've really been following comics for forty years, but it's true. My Killdozer comic, in the icon, came out in 1974 -- I was six.  :D

Today I went in for a few things. I was trying to get Volume Three of the Pogo reprints but Fantagraphix is still behind schedule.  No worries, it'll be beautiful when it comes out.

I wanted to get the first issue of the new Ms Marvel.  I read Ms Marvel back in the 70s when it was originally Carol Danvers and I really liked her hair style. :) Now she is a Muslim Teenager and I am really excited.  I missed the first ep though -- it is already sold out and has been really well received.  Yay!

Well, I looked on the shelves.  I picked out Neil Gaiman's Sandman Overture.  It looks pretty good.

Then I wandered over to see if there might be a Loki book.  Sure enough, yay!  There is!  And Loki is working for the All-Mother, which sounds cool!  In the book there is a happy little reference to slash.
Thor: I spoke on your behalf, brother, but Midgard's laws are what they are. And you did create a most terrible slash upon their internet.
Loki: I hacked the internet, Thor. It's different. Although I have done the other thing, too.
:D :D :D
It made me smile, especially considering how I've been devouring Astolat's Loki stories over on AO3.  Is this comic really holding itself up to OUR standards?  because that would be pretty cool!

I bought Kate Beaton's book Hark a Vagrant!!  Allie Brosh's book was also prominently shelved,  but I already have it.

One of the guys who works at the store, who I've known for ages, just drew Empowered.  I was so happy for him and he signed a copy for me.

I was looking through the t shirts and there was a reprint of my old Rorshach shirt (from Watchmen)!  Mine is full of holes after so many years.

There were several Doctor Who things but nothing I needed.

There was a woman and her boyfriend looking at Maus.  I'm not sure they bought anything.  I had a little convo with her about Monuments Men, which Husband, Son and I saw last night.  (three thumbs up!)

What really struck me about the day was -- women's books in the store -- Allie Brosh and Kate Beaton, so cool!
A new Ms Marvel, and selling really well!
Neil Gaiman, still going strong -- after he burst on the scene in the 80s and helped change the face of comics!
A Loki book -- pretty much clearly marketed directly to me as a female reader.  I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
Another woman in the store, meaning I'm not the only female there.

It just felt good.  It felt like after years of being a fangirl, always having to prove my cred with the fanboys, there was some sense of change.  After forty years, it feels like maybe that shift has finally taken place.

The comics industry has seen us, and they seem to be ready to welcome us!  :D  At last!  :D

Tell me oldsters and youngsters -- do you feel the change -- isn't it all around us???  It makes me happy!

I'm very psyched to hear about the new Ms. Marvel that is coming Feb. 5 -- a teenaged Muslim girl!  :)

I was an enthusiastic reader of Ms. Marvel back in the 1970s, the early Carol Danvers era, when the character was first introduced.  Those dog-eared issues should be up in the attic in the Way Back short box!!  :)

I don't have a box at the comic store anymore, but I'll be marking my calendar to go in and pick this up. Buying it digitally warps my brain!  Though I guess I should look into it.... :)
