Last weekend, Misha awesomely ran 83 K to raise funds for therandomact.org.
Part of the money goes to Haiti, part to Pakistan, and part to minions who are seeking to take over the world one good deed at a time.
At my church, our Seminarian just returned to give her report about a fact-finding mission she undertook in Haiti in May. It was striking in her photographs, the difference between the sick and starving children on the street, and the well-fed, shodden, and happy children in the orphanages. (Shoes are important because barefoot children get infested with parasitic worms.)
The fact that Misha's run supports 3 orphanages is a very good sign that the money will truly go towards improving the lives of children.
If you are interested in supporting any other organizations, consider Food for the Poor, which has a long history of delivering food in Haiti, and the Haiti Micah Project, which feeds children who otherwise live on the street.
Just a little reminder, that as fans, we can contribute to make a real difference by pooling our resources. Misha has impressed me so much. What can you expect from a former NPR guy who married a gender historian?? :D
