The heat wave that was making us hot and sweaty in the mid-Atlantic finally broke and the past couple days have been absolutely ideal.  I've been walking around my lake pretty regularly and having a great time with my camera and sneakily picking raspberries and blackberries.

Now with new star rating system!
[92] Supernatural 7.23  ***
[93] Sherlock 2.3  ***
[94]  National Theater Live  Frankenstein ****  [detailed review]
[95] Death on the Nile ***
[96] The Princess Bride ******
Classic Who: [97] The Aztecs  *****
[98]  Planet of the Spiders ****
[99] Revenge of the Cybermen **
[100] The Brain of Morbius ****
[101] Revelation of the Daleks *

Today I made the 100 mile mark!!  Reaching the first 100 took me longer than I hoped but the challenge has kept me feeling motivated.  Also, carrying my camera and taking pictures of things I like helps.    I also bought a zumba membership, yay.  And I did my little yoga routine twice already this week, which really does improve my feeling of wellness. :)

Recent media have included:
[85-6] Supernatural 7.21&22, [87] Sherlock 2.2, [88] The Avengers movie, [89] Clocking Off (with C. Eccleston!) and Classic Who: [90] Spearhead from Space and [91] The Seeds of Doom.   Details under cut!

[84] Sherlock 2.1 A Scandal in Belgravia was released yesterday to public television stations in the US, who showed it on Masterpiece Mystery, and my husband and I watched it in realtime. (Idk what bits were left out, it seemed to work pretty well.)

I love spoilers, so I already knew most of what happens -- I recently read a fic that apparently followed it almost word for word!  So there were not too many surprises.

What I loved about the episode was watching it alongside my husband and for the two of us to compare our reactions to The Woman, The Virgin, and the Flatmate.

Spoilers under cut.

I have now walked more miles than I have seen episodes!  (that is a good thing!) By the end of April I had walked 84 miles.  That is a little behind schedule because April is so killer busy for me.  But it is still okay, and I got good walking in today and yesterday, so May is off to a good start.   I have not lost any weight (which would be a lovely bonus, should it occur) but I do feel a lot more fit.

[77-78 ] Supernatural:
7.19 Of Grave Importance (4-20-12)  Dir.  Tim Andrew; Wr. Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming
7.20 The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo (4-27-12) Dir.  Johnny MacCarthy; Wr. Robbie Thompson
These two episodes were both fantastic.  I burst into tears twice during 7.20 because it was just too cool.  The Girl is one of the best ever!!!

[79-80 ] Community:
3. 14 "Pillows and Blankets" (4-5-12)
3.17 Basic Lupine Urology (4-26-12)
I am behind in my Community -- I missed two eps!  These two were both awesome though.

[81 ] Movie: The Hunger Games
This movie was so much better than I expected -- very hard hitting and political, which I didn't really expect.  Did it hit me harder because I am Appalachian?  I can vouch that squirrels are tasty.

[82] Doctor Who: The Two Doctors (1985), feat. Six and Peri, also Two and Jamie, vs. some Sontarans, "Androgums" (sadly racist), and the Third Zone.  We have watched the first two parts, and this one is pretty fun: Six is Rude and Two is Panicky.  Plus Jamie gets to wear about 20 pounds of plaidy.  He rocks.  I also like Peri and her clothes from 1985.  I used to wear a headband across my forehead just like that!

[83] Macbeth  (Great Performances 39.3, 10-6-2010) with Patrick Stewart.
OMG, this production is so chilling.  We haven't finished it yet because I have to keep taking breaks!!

I have had a good time in April writing for the Spring Doctor/Rose Fixathon and for the DWPronathon, so that has been good. I still want to write some sort of Labyrinth crossover, and maybe some Eleven/Rose for the fixathon.  The pronathon is so awesome, we should extend it for the Merry Month of M----.

I have two songs that are still in production.  It is so hard to make a great recording.

I went to the show of an awesome Indie Rocker Woman named Ms. Fridrich.  You can buy her CD from bandcamp.  I have been playing it over and over.  yay!

Wow, that movie was SO MUCH BETTER than I ever expected it to be.

[76] NEW ORLEANS MON AMOUR
Dir. Michael Almereyda,  Voodoo Pictures, 2008, 1 hour 18 minutes, with Christopher Eccleston and Elisabeth Moss.

...thumbs up! )

Today is a genuine Day Off. My son went away on Spring Break and I am taking the day off.  The sun is up and the birds are singing.  Yesterday my husband and I took a very nice stroll around a nearby lake and I almost stepped on a muskrat.  Someday soon I hope to start a photobucket so I can share some of the lovely pictures I've taken this spring, including several muskrats!

Today will be a big day of straightening the house, planting some seeds, taking a nice walk somewhere, and enjoying myself, hopefully work a little on my new songs.  I have a very hard piece by Purcell that I need to perfect by Easter, when I will also be playing guitar in a sunrise service outside at 6:15!  Actually, greeting the sun outside on Easter morning is one of my very favorite ways to celebrate the day.

Apparently the Daleks are ready to help me relax!   This youtube made me shriek with laughter.  Dalek Relaxation Tape  :D

A lot of media was watched by me in March!!!  However, I also walked 45 miles in March, bringing my total up to 58 miles so far.  It still seems kind of wrong that I've watched more eps than I have walked miles!  Still, I've completed two new songs, and have two more that I hope to record this week!

It is now 8:10 am, I finally finished this entry, and now time to get out of bed and start the day!  :D  Wishing everyone out there a lovely April morning!

In media log news, we finished Classic Who, Four, Sarah Jane, and Harry, in [49] "the Ark in Space," and moved on to Four and Leela in [50] "Robots of Death." The main characters had AMAZING 1970s costumes and makeup. I could just hear the director telling the Robots to try and sound more like C3PO. We laughed really hard during the extras which were all clips of the mining model going through the mist and the dirt. We were punchy I guess. :P We are now watching Three and Jo Grant in [51]  "Planet of the Daleks." I always love Dalek stories. Three and Jo have a very fun relationship in this story; they are so fond of each other. Four is always so gruff with Leela he hardly seems to like her at all in the stories I've seen. And he's always kind of taunting Sarah Jane. I'm very much looking forward to watching more Classic Who.

[52] My husband and I are watching a Sherlock Holmes movie starring Christopher Lee called Incident at Victoria Falls (1991).  It is okay.  Even though I didn't die with loving BBC Sherlock, apparently it has given me a jones for more Sherlock.

I ordered "Clocking Off" for my new multiregion DVD player. The seller emailed me like "this is not region 1!!!" and I was all "i am SO READY with my multiregion player!!!" Amazon.co.uk would not ship me a new copy of Clocking Off from the UK, so I had to order it from a US seller. What is up with that?  ...  Elizabeth came in the mail. Haven't watched it yet!

Read a really great YA novel the other day at school:
The London Eye Mystery is a children's mystery novel by English author Siobhan Dowd. First published in 2007, it tells the story of how Ted, a boy with Asperger syndrome, solves the mystery of how his cousin Salim seemingly vanishes from inside a sealed capsule on the London Eye. It was Dowd's second children's novel and won six awards, including the School Library Journal Best Books of the Year Award 2008, the Booklist Children's Editors' Choice Award 2008, the Horn Book Fanfare Award 2008, and the Kirkus Reviews Best Children’s Books Award.
I really liked the mystery and the first person narration of Ted. Apparently this is another Sherlock substitute. :P

Also pre-ordered Shada by Douglas Adams and Gareth Roberts, then spent a long time on abebooks looking at Gareth Roberts novels.  Feel annoyed that someone born in 1968, my birth year, has successfully published so many original Who novels, starting in 1993.  hmmm.

The weather here is warm and sunny.  All the flowers are blooming, including my own daffodils.  Our magnolia trees in the neighborhood are in bloom, as are the mulberries.  The camellias are gorgeous.  Am feeling very good with my walking regimen, though now there is something funny about my toenail, grr, so am applying MAGIC teatree oil.  Zap!

If you read this far, you may leave a prompt!  :D

Last but not least : the Walk Five Hundred Miles Challenge.
So a while back the host of the dt_sexy_off was [livejournal.com profile] apurplepatch and she proposed that with David being so fit he might be good inspiration for a Walk Five Hundred Miles challenge.  I decided to give it a go!  I am walking every day, and in February I walked 13 miles, but I have already walked that far again in March.  It's about a mile and a half / half an hour of walking each day during the week, and more on weekends.  Let me know if you'd like to take part in the Walk Five Hundred Miles challenge -- I reckon I'll finish by the late autumn if not sooner!!  and then I can get started on Walking Five Hundred More!!

I set up my multi-region DVD player yesterday and successfully watched DVDs FROM MULTIPLE REGIONS!!!!!!!!

happy happy joy joy! happy happy joy joy!!

A while back in my local library used book room there was this enormous treasure trove of Doctor Who episodes -- mostly One and Six, but I'll take it!  It included the entire Trial of a Time Lord, which I am very anxious to get started on.  But of course, the horror, it was all Region 2.  After much hemming and hawing, I finally broke down and ordered a multi-region Samsung DVD player which shipped to me from Amazon in like a week and cost a total of $50.  SO WORTH IT.

[41] To inaugurate the multi-region DVD player, I watched The Mark of the Rani --so fun!!  Awesome classic Who. The Ainley!Master just drips with MENACE.  I freaking love it!!!!  The story is shot on location at a coal mining museum, so it didn't have the wobbly set/quarry thing going on... and Peri was wearing that ridiculous dress... she even COMPLAINED about the ridiculousness of her dress.  And the Mark of the Rani is......  A HICKEY.  it totally is!!!!  lolz, so many lolz!!!  After watching this story, I really feel like Six/Colin Baker got a bum rap.  He is very cross to be sure... but he's totally the Doctor.  He is.    Watching the Doctor, the Master and the Rani together in this episode is priceless.  And the Rani is just so awesome.  I want to cosplay her leather pants and black shirt outfit so bad.  And then my husband could go as Ainley!  that would ROCK.

This day cannot go unnoticed without wishing Christopher Eccleston a very happy birthday and many happy returns of the day!  I hope he is having a fine day with his MYSTERY SPOUSE and baby Albert, enjoying every bit of the magnificent things he's achieved in his well-spent 48 years.  Slàinte, Chris!

PS, I checked out Mary Norton's first book of The Borrowers from my son's school library today!  It's awesome!

By January 9th, we had already watched 21 eps, including many first season Heroes eps.

Heroes, Chris, etc )

I personally have not seen any more Community this week tho my boy and man did watch an ep online while I was out.  We turned on the TV last night and they had bumped it for 30 Rock.  We are bummed.

My main show, Supernatural, just won the People's Choice Award for Best Drama!!!!! and for best sf.  I am beyond happy for them.  Truly, this is the great show no one watches.  I am really grateful to the CW for hanging in there with my little, awesome Show.  I will be working on Friday when the next ep airs.....

Richard E. Grant as Withnail is made up to look like David Bowie.  I've been hunting icons all week and saw some awesome Bowie icons, and the resemblance to Withnail is striking.  Of course, I also see a strong resemblance between older Lis Sladen and Tony Head.  :)

Status: 26.
